En esta recopilaci\u00f3n de Fresh Sound se recogen cuatro grabaciones registradas entre 1952 y 1954, lo que explica que las formaciones var\u00eden del cuarteto al sexteto. Ejemplo de \u00abexperimentaci\u00f3n tranquila\u00bb (<a title=\"Jack Nimitz and friends\u2026 Yesterday and Today (Fresh Sound)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tomajazz.com\/web\/?p=10117\" target=\"_blank\">tal y como se\u00f1alaba hace unos d\u00edas Fernando Ortiz de Urbina en su repaso a <em>Yesterday and Today<\/em> de Jack Nimitz<\/a>), en una de las sesiones de 1953 la formaci\u00f3n comprend\u00eda dos chelos, contrabajo, piano y bater\u00eda; en la otra sesi\u00f3n de 1953 y en la de 1954 aparec\u00eda otro instrumento inusual en el jazz como es la trompa. Otro factor a destacar fueron sus acompa\u00f1antes, entre los que se encontraban Charles Mingus (elemento propulsor de las secciones r\u00edtmicas), el saxofonista Charlie Rouse (acompa\u00f1ante habitual de Thelonious Monk durante m\u00e1s de diez a\u00f1os), el pianista Duke Jordan o el int\u00e9rprete de trompa Julius Watkins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bien -se puede llegar a plantear el lector que haya sido capaz de llegar hasta este punto en estos tiempos de la comunicaci\u00f3n limitada a los 140 caracteres-, y adem\u00e1s de las buenas compa\u00f1\u00edas y la experimentaci\u00f3n, \u00bfqu\u00e9 sucede con la m\u00fasica? <em>Last, but not least<\/em>, entre los diecinueve temas se incluye material de primera. Su car\u00e1cter var\u00eda entre las distintas sesiones (aqu\u00ed hay\u00a0<em>be-bop<\/em>, un terreno en el que se movi\u00f3 Pettiford en la d\u00e9cada de los cuarenta), aunque el factor com\u00fan a todas ellas son los magn\u00edficos solos, capaces de hacer mover los pies al m\u00e1s pintado. Tambi\u00e9n hay que destacar unos arreglos muy trabajados y acordes a la \u00e9poca (del <em>be-bop<\/em> se hab\u00eda pasado a nuevas maneras de entender el jazz), especialmente en la \u00faltima sesi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La mayor\u00eda de temas fueron compuestos por Pettiford, incluyendo sus populares \u00abBlues In The Closet\u00bb y \u00abTricrotism\u00bb. Tambi\u00e9n recoge una revisi\u00f3n <em>ellingtoniana<\/em> (\u00abI&#8217;m Beginning To See The Light\u00bb), as\u00ed como composiciones de Gerry Mulligan (\u00abSextette\u00bb), Quincy Jones (\u00abStockholm Sweetnin'\u00bb y \u00abGolden Touch\u00bb) y Harry Babasin (el otro violonchelista participante, autor de las brillantes \u00abIn A Cello Mood\u00bb y \u00abMonti Celli\u00bb).
