En esta ocasi\u00f3n, no act\u00faa como instrumentista, sino que ha volcado su esfuerzo en componer y dirigir un conjunto instrumental muy particular. Nada menos que seis guitarras ac\u00fasticas (incluyendo una guitarra soprano y dos guitarras bajo) y dos pianos participan en esta grabaci\u00f3n. Se trata de un trabajo de car\u00e1cter experimental, basado en lo que Threadgill denomina su \u00absintaxis interv\u00e1lica\u201d, es decir, compuesto con estructuras arm\u00f3nicas muy cuidadas, pero alejadas de lo convencionalmente jazz\u00edstico. El t\u00edtulo evoca la idea de la navegaci\u00f3n, de un \u201cbarco de escucha\u201d (Listen Ship), una met\u00e1fora de la audici\u00f3n como traves\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Este disco conecta con trabajos anteriores como <em>Song Out of My Trees<\/em> (1994) o <em>Double Up, Plays Double Up Plus<\/em> (2018), donde Threadgill ya mostr\u00f3 su inter\u00e9s por agrupaciones\u00a0 similares o poco convencionales de instrumentos.<\/p>\n<p>Muchas de las piezas tienen una duraci\u00f3n muy breve, oscilan entre los 40 segundos la que menos y los 8 minutos la que m\u00e1s, lo que genera un sentido de fragmentos m\u00e1s que de largos desarrollos tem\u00e1ticos. A lo largo de la suite, se alternan secciones de pianos solos, solos de guitarras o en grupo, e integraciones de ambos, con continuos contrastes de textura y de atm\u00f3sfera.<\/p>\n<p>En \u00abH\u00bb, guitarras, pianos y bajo se combinan y se perciben sugerencias de tango o habanera. \u00abL\u00bb se inicia con armon\u00edas de guitarra contemplativas y luego introduce un solo articulado que contrasta con lo anterior. \u00abR\u00bb, con todo el conjunto completo, ofrece una especie de s\u00edntesis de lo escuchado. Aunque no hay bater\u00eda convencional, el ritmo y la percusi\u00f3n emergen de las guitarras bajo, las estructuras r\u00edtmicas de las cuerdas y la interacci\u00f3n entre los instrumentos.<\/p>\n<p>Esta obra requiere una escucha atenta y abierta a formas menos lineales y convencionales. Dado que muchas piezas son breves y fragmentarias, conviene escuchar el \u00e1lbum como un todo para captar su arquitectura global.
