Su \u00faltima experiencia en este formato fue<em> Trio Exaltation<\/em> (Clean Feed 2018) con el bajista John H\u00e9bert y el baterista Nasheet Waits. Siete a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, estos m\u00fasicos se han reencontrado en <em>This Time. <\/em>El disco tiene siete composiciones originales de Ehrlich junto con dos versiones de piezas del difunto y destacado pianista Andrew Hill, con quien Ehrlich colabor\u00f3 durante cuatro o cinco a\u00f1os. Exploraci\u00f3n de espacios sonoros: silencios, atm\u00f3sferas, di\u00e1logos, momentos de suspensi\u00f3n o tensi\u00f3n. La tensi\u00f3n, los matices r\u00edtmicos y la libertad en la improvisaci\u00f3n permiten un comienzo explosivo y expresivo en \u00abSometimes, This Time\u00bb, que tiene una entrada en\u00e9rgica marcada por el contrabajo, con el saxo y la bater\u00eda muy incisivos a lo largo del tema.<\/p>\n<p>Dos composiciones del legendario pianista y compositor Andrew Hill se suceden de manera consecutiva. En \u00abDusk\u00bb, el papel del piano lo hacen el contrabajo y la bater\u00eda, mientras que el saxo aporta un aire meditativo, algo melanc\u00f3lico y cargado de emoci\u00f3n, como un tributo reverente. \u00abImages of Time\u00bb, la otra pieza de Hill, supone un momento contemplativo. El tr\u00edo estira el tiempo y la m\u00fasica parece como suspendida. Evoca memoria, memoria del propio jazz, pero sin nostalgia; m\u00e1s bien con lucidez.<\/p>\n<p>Las dos \u00abConversations\u00bb (I y II) son d\u00faos entre saxo y bater\u00eda, momentos de m\u00e1xima intimidad y espontaneidad: di\u00e1logos abiertos, espacios casi improvisados que rozan lo experimental, lo visceral, aunque la segunda es m\u00e1s libre y arriesgada. \u00abTwelve for Black Arthur\u00bb es un homenaje vibrante al saxo Arthur Blythe, a trav\u00e9s de un <em>blues <\/em>moderno, con pegada y car\u00e1cter. La articulaci\u00f3n del saxo es m\u00e1s agresiva y f\u00edsica. La bater\u00eda empuja sin invadir. Uno de los momentos m\u00e1s pujantes del disco.<\/p>\n<p>Destaca el sentido de grupo del tr\u00edo y su conexi\u00f3n. Hay un equilibrio entre los m\u00fasicos; cada uno aporta sin restar, lo que da una sensaci\u00f3n de unidad y profundidad. La combinaci\u00f3n de tradici\u00f3n y libertad, rescatando el legado de Andrew Hill y del jazz <em>post-bop\/avant-garde<\/em>, no es nost\u00e1lgica, sino reinterpretativa.<\/p>\n<p>Es un disco exigente en su escucha e invita a la introspecci\u00f3n, al descubrimiento, a la experiencia sonora profunda.
