Perif\u00e9rico porque se alej\u00f3 de los principios est\u00e9ticos definidos por W.E.B. Dubois y Alain Locke, cuya finalidad era ofrecer una cultura negra de consumo para deleite del p\u00fablico blanco (entre el que se encontraban numerosos mecenas de los artistas de Harlem). Hughes reivindicaba la cultura negra desde sus or\u00edgenes africanos, exaltando la diferencia e incorporando al ritmo de su poes\u00eda elementos fundacionales de las m\u00fasicas afroamericanas, como la s\u00edncopa (piedra angular de los ritmos de jazz y <i>blues<\/i>). Hughes romp\u00eda las medidas de la poes\u00eda tradicional (nuevas formas), desplazaba los acentos r\u00edtmicos hacia adverbios que ocupaban todo un verso (acentuando los tiempos d\u00e9biles del comp\u00e1s) y cantaba al dolor del pueblo afroamericano (el <i>blues<\/i>).
