En esta ocasi\u00f3n, el sello American Jazz Classics, nos aborda con una reedici\u00f3n doble del m\u00e1s grande entre los grandes: Edward Kennedy Ellington, o lo que es lo mismo, \u201cDuke\u201d Ellington.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tan insondables son los caminos de los intereses discogr\u00e1ficos, que cabr\u00eda hacernos un par de preguntas. La primera: \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 elegir estos dos \u00e1lbumes para editarlos de forma conjunta? Una pregunta inicial tan buena como f\u00e1cil de contestar, dejando de lado el inter\u00e9s comercial que posee todo articulo al que se le plasma la cara de Ellington. Sin contar con lo mencionado, ambos discos son el resultado de nueve sesiones de grabaci\u00f3n, sufragadas por Reprise Records publicados en dos editoriales distintas (recordad que he dicho que los caminos de los directivos de los sellos discogr\u00e1ficos son inescrutables). El primero, <em>Will Big Bands Ever Come Back?<\/em> con la mencionada Reprise Records<em>. <\/em>Y el segundo, <em>Recolections of the Big Bands<\/em>\u201dcon Atlantic. La otra cuesti\u00f3n que nos hemos prometido hacer, ser\u00eda: \u00bfqu\u00e9 aportan ambas grabaciones a la ampl\u00edsima discograf\u00eda del Duque? Obviando la cuesti\u00f3n t\u00e9cnica, que es bastante buena, una remasterizaci\u00f3n en 24 bit que nos hace disfrutar como nunca del sonido de una gran <em>Big Band<\/em>, como digo, obviando esto, encontraremos un compendio de composiciones, que el gran Ellington nunca hab\u00eda grabado antes y que tampoco volver\u00e1 a grabar posteriormente, centr\u00e1ndose en temas tradicionales de la era del <em>Swing. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Capitulo aparte merecen los m\u00fasicos, que por lo general est\u00e1n m\u00e1s que correctos. Entre todos ellos, brilla como un diamante m\u00e1s que pulido, el gran sonido del saxo alto de \u201cEl Hombre\u201d: Johnny Hodges. <em>Rabbit<\/em> emana luz propia en todos los solos que acomete, con una gran profundidad y un lirismo extremo. Toda una gozada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Completan la edici\u00f3n 16 p\u00e1ginas en las que podemos encontrar: las portadas originales, comentarios de Bernard Lee, Charles Champlin (que no os ocurra como a m\u00ed, es Cha\u201dM\u201dplin con na M intercalada y no Chaplin. Se refieren, como no, al gran cr\u00edtico de cine y escritor) y Stanley Dance, fotograf\u00edas varias y los cr\u00e9ditos originales.
