Sobre la elecci\u00f3n de los artistas, <strong>Mandel<\/strong> se centra en los libre-improvisadores de los a\u00f1os setenta a esta parte, destacando especialmente a los m\u00fasicos afro-americanos. As\u00ed, como objeto de sus entrevistas y breves repasos biogr\u00e1ficos aparecen maestros como <strong>Don Pullen<\/strong>, <strong>Muhal Richard Abrams<\/strong> y su <strong>Art Ensemble of Chicago<\/strong>, los integrantes del <strong>World Saxophone Quartet<\/strong>, <strong>John Scofield<\/strong>, <strong>James Blood Ulmer<\/strong>, <strong>David Murray<\/strong>, <strong>Butch Morris <\/strong>y otros miembros de la <strong>AACM <\/strong>(Asociation for the Advancement of Creative Musicians), <strong>Henry Threadgill<\/strong>, <strong>John McLaughlin<\/strong>, <strong>Vernon Reid <\/strong>y los miembros del <strong>Black Roack Coalition<\/strong>, <strong>Joe Lovano<\/strong>, <strong>John Zorn<\/strong>, <strong>Anthony Davis<\/strong>, <strong>Cassandra Wilson<\/strong>, <strong>Geri Allen<\/strong>, <strong>Steve Coleman <\/strong>y el colectivo <strong>M-Base <\/strong>o el <strong>Microscopic Septet<\/strong>, entre otros.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Resulta, cuando menos, parad\u00f3jica la presencia de <strong>George Benson<\/strong> entre artistas tan cercanos a la vanguardia, as\u00ed como el hecho de que la figura central del libro (tres cap\u00edtulos, ni m\u00e1s ni menos) sea el mism\u00edsimo <strong>Wynton Marsalis<\/strong>, quien intenta dogmatizar a base de las opiniones sesgadas, partidistas y excluyentes a las que ya nos tiene acostumbrados. Contradictorio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Como punto a favor se encuentra la presencia de gran variedad de artistas, cuyos acercamientos personales a la m\u00fasica aportan una muy valiosa visi\u00f3n de conjunto.
