El planteamiento del CD, lleno de homenajes expl\u00edcitos e impl\u00edcitos a distintos violinistas de jazz, bien podr\u00eda haber sido el de una de esas obras primerizas en las que el m\u00fasico correspondiente pretende mostrar un mosaico de estilos e influencias. Unas obras que en m\u00e1s ocasiones que las aconsejables, terminan siendo un c\u00famulo de buenas intenciones, pero no de resultados. No es el caso. En primer lugar porque este violinista tiene ya publicadas m\u00e1s de media docena de grabaciones\u00a0a su nombre. En segundo lugar, y afortunadamente,\u00a0<strong>Brock<\/strong> sabe aportar su car\u00e1cter a todos esos homenajes. En \u00abPurple Sounds\u00bb y \u00abNuages\u00bb (con gui\u00f1os a <strong>Stuff<\/strong> <strong>Smith<\/strong> y <strong>St\u00e9phane\u00a0Grappelli<\/strong>, como no podr\u00eda ser de otra manera) los arreglos son los que definen el car\u00e1cter de la pieza y que encajan con el <em>mainstream<\/em> contempor\u00e1neo que suele definir la oferta de <strong>Criss<\/strong> <strong>Cross<\/strong>. En el <em>zappiano<\/em> \u00abTwenty Small Cigars\u00bb (con mirada a <strong>Jean<\/strong> <strong>Luc<\/strong> <strong>Ponty<\/strong>) la revisi\u00f3n de la pieza en clave de balada sirve para que aflore el gran tema que es. El <em>parkeriano<\/em> \u00abLittle Willie Leaps In\u00bb es una demostraci\u00f3n de virtuosismo en homenaje a <strong>Harry Lookofsky<\/strong>, un violinista no muy conocido, pero que sirvi\u00f3 de inspiraci\u00f3n a m\u00fasicos como <strong>Ponty<\/strong>. Zbigniew Siefert es un violinista que falleci\u00f3 demasiado pronto, cuya figura ha ido quedando oscurecida con el tiempo, a pesar de su gran calidad. \u00abQuo Vadis\u00bb es el homenaje de <strong>Brock<\/strong> en forma de versi\u00f3n. El restante tema ajeno es el <em>standard<\/em> \u00abAfter You&#8217;ve Gone\u00bb, que en la versi\u00f3n de virtuosos de las cuatro cuerdas como <strong>Stuff<\/strong> <strong>Smith<\/strong> o <strong>Joe Venutti<\/strong>, es uno de los favoritos del violinista. Los dos temas restantes son las creaciones del titular de la grabaci\u00f3n \u00abFolkloric\u00bb (con reminiscencias al tr\u00edo de <strong>Pat Metheny<\/strong>) y \u00abBrooklyn Ballad\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Imprescindibles para que la grabaci\u00f3n camine de principio a fin son los tres acompa\u00f1antes del violinista. El guitarrista <strong>Lage Lund<\/strong> (con quien comparte protagonismo el titular, ya que realiza un buen n\u00famero de solos de gran nivel), el contrabajista <strong>Matt Penman<\/strong> (una s\u00f3lida roca en la que amarrar el ritmo, as\u00ed como un gran solista en las escasas ocasiones en que tiene ocasi\u00f3n), y el baterista <strong>Obed Calvaire<\/strong> (que permanece en un lugar m\u00e1s discreto).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a9 Pachi Tapiz, 2014<\/p>\n<p>Zach Brock: <em>Purple Sounds<\/em> (Criss Cross Jazz, 2014)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Purple Sounds es la segunda grabaci\u00f3n del violinista Zach Brock en el sello Criss Cross Jazz.
