Por esta formaci\u00f3n, activa durante unos treinta a\u00f1os y variable en cuanto a sus componentes, pasaron unos cuantos m\u00fasicos de primer orden: Jackie McLean, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson, Bobby Timmons e incluso en los a\u00f1os 80 los hermanos Branford y Wynton Marsalis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En este concierto de 1963, grabado por la televisi\u00f3n italiana y disponible en DVD por primera vez, encontramos a una formaci\u00f3n de los Jazz Messengers de altos vuelos. Los acompa\u00f1antes de Blakey son Wayne Shorter (poco antes de abandonarlo para formar parte del m\u00edtico quinteto de Miles Davis), Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton y Reggie Workman, que en esos momentos tambi\u00e9n acompa\u00f1aba a John Coltrane. Musicalmente el grupo estaba muy bien engrasado, lo que queda patente a lo largo de todo el concierto. Salvo Workman (que sustitu\u00eda al contrabajista Jymie Merritt que abandonara la formaci\u00f3n a mediados de 1962), el resto grupo llevaba tocando junto desde mediados de 1961.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">La m\u00fasica se mueve por los terrenos del hard-bop con un repertorio al uso compuesto por algunos temas bien conocidos (\u00abSkylark\u00bb, \u00abIn the Wee Small Hours of the Morning\u00bb, \u00abI Didn&#8217;t Know What Time It Was\u00bb) y dos versiones de sendas composiciones de los Messengers. \u00abChildren Of The Night\u00bb es un tema de Shorter, mientras que Walton es el autor de \u00abMosaic\u00bb. Ambos temas est\u00e1n recogidos en Mosaic (Blue Note, 1961). Este tema, que cierra el concierto, sirve para que Blakey, que a lo largo del concierto deja a sus compa\u00f1eros amplios espacios para sus solos, sea el protagonista de un magn\u00edfico solo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Como \u00fanico \u00abpero\u00bb (compensado en parte por el hecho de estar ante material in\u00e9dito), habr\u00eda que referirse a la calidad de imagen, pero sobre todo a la del sonido.
