Como no pod\u00eda ser de otra manera aparecen referencias a los <em>minstrel shows<\/em> (con sus protagonistas Jim Crow y Zip Coon), y a la guerra civil norteamericana. A su estructura de doce compases, al\u00a0origen de su nombre en la expresi\u00f3n \u00abto be blue\u00bb y en los duendecillos conocidos como \u00abblue devils\u00bb, y a su referencia por los primeros cantantes como una m\u00fasica que ya exist\u00eda\u00a0antes que ellos.
