M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de ser un trabajo de compromiso que bien podr\u00eda haber echado mano del enorme legado del pianista, compositor y director de orquesta, todos los temas salvo tres (\u201cWarm Valley\u201d y los celeb\u00e9rrimos \u201cCaravan\u201d y \u201cSolitude\u201d) fueron obras escritas para esta sesi\u00f3n de grabaci\u00f3n. La implicaci\u00f3n de los tres m\u00fasicos salta a la vista desde el primer momento en que comienza a sonar la grabaci\u00f3n con \u201cMoney Jungle\u201d, un tema con una intensidad inusitada en la carrera del pianista. Es el inicio de una lecci\u00f3n magistral de los tres m\u00fasicos acerca de c\u00f3mo integrar sus lenguajes personales con el de sus compa\u00f1eros, de c\u00f3mo recoger elementos ajenos para integrarlos en el discurso propio. Contin\u00faa un recital soberbio con la delicadeza de \u201cFleurette Africaine\u201d, la balada \u201cWarm Valley\u201d con su comienzo a piano solo, el aroma <em>ellingtoniano<\/em> de \u201cVery Special\u201d con Mingus y Roach ejerciendo de magn\u00edfica r\u00edtmica y la reminiscencia <em>mingusiana<\/em> de \u201cWig Wise\u201d, llegando al final del disco publicado originalmente con\u00a0las magn\u00edficas reinvenciones de \u201cCaravan\u201d y \u201cSolitude\u201d. Las posteriores reediciones han a\u00f1adido unos temas (\u201cSwitch Blade\u201d, el homenaje a Roach \u201cA Little Max (Parfait)\u201d, \u201cRem Blues\u201d y \u201cBackward Boy Blues\u201d) que grabados en la misma sesi\u00f3n, est\u00e1n a la altura de los siete temas iniciales.
