La frase, pronunciada por Miles Davis a mediados de los cincuenta, tiene mucho sentido si confrontamos las primeras grabaciones de Jamal con la evoluci\u00f3n del quinteto <em>hard-bop<\/em> del trompetista. \u00c9ste no solo tom\u00f3 prestado gran parte del repertorio de aqu\u00e9l (\u00abNew Rumba\u00bb, \u00abSurrey With The Fringe On Top\u00bb, \u00abBilly Boy\u00bb, \u00abAhmad&#8217;s Blues\u00bb), tambi\u00e9n encontr\u00f3 inspiraci\u00f3n en el sonido del curioso tr\u00edo sin bater\u00eda (piano, guitarra y contrabajo) del pianista.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ahmad Jamal (nacido Freddy \u00abFritz\u00bb Jones en 1930) hizo del silencio un arte, como queda claro en <em>Chamber Music Of The New Jazz<\/em> (1955), dejando enormes espacios en su interpretaci\u00f3n pian\u00edstica y bien secundado conceptualmente por el guitarrista Ray Crawford y el discret\u00edsimo contrabajista Israel Crosby. Jamal hace descansar continuamente a su mano izquierda, y aprovecha la sonoridad juguetona del registro agudo de su piano en sus solos, desmarc\u00e1ndose de estilos precedentes y ofreciendo un claro contraste con las abigarradas convenciones improvisatorias del <em>be-bop<\/em>, imperante a\u00f1os antes. La guitarra de Crawford funciona como instrumento r\u00edtmico, rellenando con efectos percusivos o con el t\u00edpico acompa\u00f1amiento \u00aba negras\u00bb, marcando los cuatro tiempos del comp\u00e1s.
