El 1 de agosto de 1944, el contrabajista Billy Taylor, predecesor de Jimmy Blanton en la orquesta ducal, lider\u00f3 una sesi\u00f3n que, por el nombre del grupo (Big Eight) y por la presencia del guitarrista y arreglista Brick Fleagle, podemos identificar como originaria del sello HRS pero que, por diversos motivos, fue finalmente editada por Keynote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aparte de Taylor y Fleagle, la sesi\u00f3n cuenta con la presencia de los saxofonistas Harry Carney y Johnny Hodges, el trompetista Emmett Berry, el trombonista Vernon Brown (un alumno de Benny Goodman que empez\u00f3 su carrera grabando con la orquesta de Jean Goldkette), el pianista <em>stride<\/em> Johnny Guarnieri y el excelente bater\u00eda Cozy Cole.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uno de los puntos \u00e1lgidos de la sesi\u00f3n es \u201cSam-Pan\u201d, probablemente el master m\u00e1s buscado de toda la corta vida de Keynote. In\u00e9dito en 78 r.p.m., apareci\u00f3 listado en etiquetas y portadas de LP durante a\u00f1os, aunque en realidad se trataba de otra toma de \u201cCarney-Val In\u201d. Cuando ya se pensaba que el master se hab\u00eda perdido, el productor Koyishi Koyama apareci\u00f3 con dos tomas que incluy\u00f3 en la excelente recopilaci\u00f3n <em>The Essential Keynote Collection<\/em>. Se trata de un tema poco usual, muy r\u00e1pido y con complejos arreglos para el grupo, cargado de dramatismo y con bastante sabor a las colaboraciones entre Juan Tizol y Duke Ellington. La primera toma es un poco desorganizada y en ella puede oirse un inusual chirrido en el comienzo del solo de Johnny Hodges.
