En ellas se concentraban miles de personas blancas y negras en los campos o en los bosques para participar en una serie de oficios religiosos continuos que pod\u00edan durar hasta una semana.\u00a0La comunidad negra realizaba un ritual propio, como colof\u00f3n de estos oficios, que consist\u00eda en una especie de baile alrededor del campo, conocido como <em>ring shout<\/em>. Esta marcha\/danza ten\u00eda la peculiaridad de que se ejecutaba arrastrando los pies, y a ese paso se le denominaba <em>shuffle<\/em>.<br \/>\nEl 23 de mayo de 1921 se estrenaba en el teatro de Broadway, 63rd. Street Music Hall, el musical titulado, <em>Shuffle Along<\/em> (Arrastra los Pies), con m\u00fasica de Eubie Blake, letra de Noble Sissle y libreto de Autrey Lyles.
