Tanto por su papel como elemento fundamental entre los bateristas de la d\u00e9cada de los cincuenta, como por su papel esencial en el desarrollo del <em>hard-bop<\/em> tras la revoluci\u00f3n que supusieron Charlie Parker y compa\u00f1\u00eda en la d\u00e9cada anterior con el advenimiento del be-bop. El volumen de la <em>Jazz Characters New Series<\/em> de Le Chant Du Monde selecciona 34 temas en forma de un triple CD que aunque abarca\u00a0d\u00e9cada y media\u00a0(comienza con una sesi\u00f3n en 1947 con Art Blakey integrando el quinteto de Thelonious Monk, y finaliza en 1961), est\u00e1n centrados en apenas ocho a\u00f1os: tras el tema inicial de 1947, el siguiente tema -cronol\u00f3gicamente hablando- es de 1953.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tres vectores son los que sigue esta colecci\u00f3n imbatible. Por un lado, est\u00e1 el papel de Blakey como acompa\u00f1ante de lujo. En la colecci\u00f3n aparece como integrante de los Cannonball Adderley&#8217;s Five Stars, el Joe Gordon Quintet, el Cliff Jordan &#8211; John Gilmore Quintet, el Hank Mobley Quartet, el Wayne Shorter Quintet, o el Thelonious Monk Quintet. En esta categor\u00eda se puede incluir el Art Blakey Duo, que el 29 de marzo de 1959, realiz\u00f3 una versi\u00f3n para quitarse el sombrero del cl\u00e1sico de Cole Porter \u00abWhat Is This Thing Called Love\u00bb. El acompa\u00f1ante era el fabuloso Paul Chambers, contrabajista a reivindicar y a quien el mism\u00edsimo John Coltrane dedic\u00f3 el c\u00e9lebre \u00abMr. P.C.\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El siguiente vector son los Jazz Messengers, esa incre\u00edble f\u00e1brica de nuevos talentos por la que pasaron m\u00fasicos de la categor\u00eda de Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Johnny Griffin, Jymie Merritt, Jackie McLean, Bill Hardman, Hank Mobley, Horace Silver, Benny Golson&#8230; Entre los temas seleccionados no pod\u00edan faltar dos cl\u00e1sicos del nivel de \u00abMoanin'\u00bb y \u00abBlues March\u00bb, grabados el 30 de octubre de 1958.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El \u00faltimo eje que centra la selecci\u00f3n son unas pocas\u00a0encarnaciones de los Art Blakey Percussion Ensemble.
