Este ganador de la <em>Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition<\/em> en el a\u00f1o 2008 publica dos CD en su sello Irabbagast Records, que muestran su gran versatilidad. <em>Inaction Is An Action<\/em> es un CD en solitario, interpretado exclusivamente con el saxo sopranino, en la que este m\u00fasico desarrolla sus improvisaciones haciendo un uso intensivo de distintas t\u00e9cnicas extendidas con este instrumento no demasiado habitual. Estas improvisaciones, a su vez, muestran la enorme imaginaci\u00f3n de este m\u00fasico, puesto que la m\u00fasica que surge en ellas no se desarrolla de un modo lineal, sino que var\u00eda de tema en tema. La obra, cuya portada es un bodeg\u00f3n creado para la ocasi\u00f3n por Kyunghee Kin (titulado <em>Still Life With Sopranino<\/em>), es de escucha obligatoria por su planteamiento, desarrollo y resultados.\u00a0<em>Behind The Sky<\/em> es la otra obra publicada en Irabbagast, alejada radicalmente de su grabaci\u00f3n en solitario. <strong>Luis Perdomo<\/strong> al piano, <strong>Yasushi Nakamura<\/strong> al contrabajo y <strong>Rudy Royston<\/strong> a la bater\u00eda, m\u00e1s el trompetista y fiscornista <strong>Tom Harrell<\/strong> en tres temas, m\u00e1s <strong>Irabagon<\/strong> a los saxos tenor y soprano, ofrecen una obra de <em>mainstream<\/em> contempor\u00e1neo. Irabagon es el autor de las once composiciones en las que hay aproximaciones al jazz modal, al <em>hard-bop<\/em> o toques de <em>latin jazz<\/em>, aunque m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la nomenclatura de los estilos hay muy buenos solos, buenas composiciones y un grupo muy bien engrasado. Quiz\u00e1s el \u00fanico pero que se le puede poner son los desvanecidos en algunos de los temas. Jazz para todos los p\u00fablicos.\u00a0<em>Tales Of The Unforeseen<\/em> del <strong>Barry Altschul&#8217;s 3Dom Factor<\/strong>, publicado en Tum Records, es la segunda grabaci\u00f3n de este tr\u00edo integrado por Irabagon (saxos tenor, soprano y sopranino, y flauta), Altschul (bater\u00eda y percusi\u00f3n), y <strong>Joe Fonda<\/strong> (contrabajo). El estreno hom\u00f3nimo de este grupo desarrollaba las composiciones de Altschul en una obra que serv\u00eda para celebrar el 70\u00ba cumplea\u00f1os de este grande de la bater\u00eda. En su continuaci\u00f3n, el tr\u00edo crea unas improvisaciones, entre las que intercala sendas\u00a0recreaciones\u00a0de Thelonious Monk (\u00abA Tale Of Monk: Ask Me Now\u00bb) y Annette Peacock (\u00abAnnete&#8217;s Tale Of Miracles\u00bb). Libertad, interacci\u00f3n, creatividad a raudales y un entendimiento magistral por parte de tres m\u00fasicos pertenecientes a dos generaciones distintas. \u00a0Power jazz por un tr\u00edo de lujo. La \u00faltima grabaci\u00f3n comentada\u00a0es <em>Mauch Chunk (Hot Cup Records)<\/em>, lo nuevo de <strong>Mostly Other People Do The Killing<\/strong>. \u00bfCu\u00e1l ten\u00eda que\u00a0ser el siguiente paso\u00a0de este grupo\u00a0tras la recreaci\u00f3n del m\u00edtico <em>Kind Of Blue<\/em>? Posiblemente la \u00fanica opci\u00f3n tras esa bomba de profundidad en la l\u00ednea de flotaci\u00f3n de una cierta manera inmovilista de entender la\u00a0ortodoxia jazz\u00edstica era una nueva grabaci\u00f3n con composiciones de <strong>Moppa Elliott<\/strong> que volviesen la mirada a ese hard-bop que ha sido la l\u00ednea argumental del repertorio de<strong> MOPDTK<\/strong>. Et voil\u00e1. <strong>Leonard Featherweight<\/strong> nos vuelve a relatar en sus magistrales notas del CD la historia de esa ciudad llamada Mauch Chunk. Los temas pierden gran parte de ese car\u00e1cter de batidora estil\u00edstica que pose\u00edan antes del irreverentemente respetuoso <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomajazz.com\/web\/?p=16410\" target=\"_blank\">Blue<\/a><\/em>, debido posiblemente al abandono del trompetista Peter Evans del grupo, quien es sustituido por el pianista Ron Stabinsky, que ya hab\u00eda participado en anteriores grabaciones.
