Muestran a un artista con un tremendo arsenal de recursos, un vers\u00e1til todo terreno. <i>Capricorn Rising <\/i>(1975) fue grabado a cuarteto junto al enorme <b>Sam Rivers<\/b>, <b>Alex Blake<\/b> y <b>Bobby Battle<\/b>. Si en la primera cara del LP su m\u00fasica transitaba por el <i>post-free<\/i> de la \u00e9poca, el mel\u00f3dico \u201cFall Out\u201d o el car\u00e1cter festivo de \u201cJoycie Girl\u201d mostraban otra cara bien distinta. <i>Warriors <\/i>(1978) es una sesi\u00f3n de <i>free-bop<\/i>\u00a0repartida en dos temas (\u201cWarriors Dance: Little Don\u201d -dividido en dos partes- y \u201cLand Of The Pharoahs\u201d) a cargo de <b>Pullen<\/b>, <b>Chico Freeman <\/b>(saxo tenor), <b>Fred Hopkins <\/b>(contrabajo) y nuevamente <b>Bobby Battle <\/b>(bater\u00eda). All\u00ed est\u00e1 lo que uno puede esperar de semejante formaci\u00f3n: buenas melod\u00edas y unos solos contundentes (adem\u00e1s de <b>Pullen<\/b>, atenci\u00f3n a <b>Hopkins <\/b>y <b>Battle <\/b>en la segunda parte de \u201cWarriors Dance\u201d). A lo largo de su carrera, del mismo modo que ocurri\u00f3 con <b>Cecil Taylor<\/b>, <b>Don Pullen <\/b>colabor\u00f3 con el <b>Art Ensemble Of Chicago<\/b>. En <i>Milano Strut<\/i> (1978) el pianista grab\u00f3 en d\u00fao con al percusionista <b>Famoudou Don Moye<\/b>. En <i>The Magic Triangle<\/i> (1979) a los dos m\u00fasicos se les uni\u00f3 el flautista, clarinetista y saxofonista <b>Joseph Jarman<\/b>. \u201cConversation\u201d, el tema que inicia <i>Milano Strut<\/i>, muestra un <i>free <\/i>descarado especialmente interactivo, aunque la propuesta cambia en los tres temas restantes a la espiritualidad de \u201cCommunication\u201d, la ligereza de \u201cMilano Strut\u201d, e incluso a la libre improvisaci\u00f3n en el inicio de \u201cCurve Element (for Giuseppi)\u201d. Algo similar ocurre en <i>The Magic Triangle<\/i>. La suavidad inicial de \u201cLonely Child\u201d sirve para que la melod\u00eda de <b>Joseph Jarman<\/b> se interne en los terrenos del free. \u201cJ.F.M. &#8211; 3 Way Blues\u201d de <b>Famoudou Don Moye <\/b>est\u00e1 compuesta por una marcha y termina con un potente <i>blues<\/i>. <b>Don Pullen <\/b>compuso los dos temas de la cara B: el <i>monkiano-a-la-free<\/i> \u201cHippy Dippy\u201d, dando a continuaci\u00f3n una lecci\u00f3n de pianismo enciclop\u00e9dico en \u201cWhat Was Ain\u2019t\u201d. En 1985 el <b>Don Pullen Quintet<\/b> (<b>Olu Dara<\/b> -trompeta-, <b>Donald Harrison<\/b> -saxo alto-, nuevamente <b>Fred Hopkins<\/b> y <b>Bobby Battle<\/b>, adem\u00e1s del propio <b>Pullen<\/b>) grababan <i>The Sixth Sense<\/i>. Un disco en el que hay <i>free-bop<\/i>, pero tambi\u00e9n referencias al <i>gospel <\/i>o a la m\u00fasica de New Orleans. En <i>Healing Force<\/i> (1976) y <i>Evidence Of Things Unseen<\/i> (1983) el pianista se enfrent\u00f3 en solitario al piano, saliendo triunfante. Sus armas conten\u00edan dosis de abstracci\u00f3n y lirismo, de melod\u00eda y libertad, de inspiraci\u00f3n en el jazz y en otras m\u00fasicas, de intensidad y de suavidad.
