Esto ya es m\u00e1s que evidente en discos de los 90 como <i>Nashville <\/i>(1996) o <i>Good Dog, Happy Man<\/i> (1999) en los que planteaba su acercamiento a la americana. En <i>Sign Of Life<\/i> ampl\u00eda este espectro empleando el folk, blues y jazz, y a\u00f1adiendo elementos que provienen de grandes compositores norteamericanos como <b>Copland<\/b>, <b>Ives <\/b>o los minimalistas <b>Glass <\/b>y <b>Reich<\/b>. Para el segundo CD del <b>858 Quartet<\/b> (en el que a <b>Frisell <\/b>le acompa\u00f1an el viol\u00edn de <b>Jenny Scheinmann<\/b>, el chelo de <b>Hank Roberts<\/b> y la viola de <b>Eyvind Kang<\/b>), el guitarrista incide en su faceta de compositor. Los diecisiete temas (diez de ellos miniaturas que no llegan a los tres minutos), son obra suya. Sin embargo, y aunque el disco no contiene largos solos, es m\u00e1s que notable la libertad de cada uno de los m\u00fasicos.
