\nWhat Is There What Is Not<\/i> es un disco que puede parecer un punto discordante en la discograf\u00eda del baterista suizo Lucas Niggli. \u00c9sta est\u00e1 compuesta, durante los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os y a grandes rasgos, por las distintas encarnaciones de Big Zoom en las que toca sus creaciones, su proyecto Steamboat Switzerland (al que quiz\u00e1s se le pudiera aplicar la etiqueta de \u00abimprovisaci\u00f3n hardcore avant-garde\u00bb<\/i>, ah\u00ed es nada), su cuarteto Big Beat Bohemia y sus d\u00faos centrados en la bater\u00eda\/percusi\u00f3n, adem\u00e1s de sus encuentros centrados en la improvisaci\u00f3n. <\/div>\n

En su nueva grabaci\u00f3n aparece integrado en un tr\u00edo completado por el acordeonista Luciano Biondini y el tubista Michel Godard. Una formaci\u00f3n at\u00edpica que centra el grueso de su trabajo en composiciones propias: Biondini aporta cuatro, Godard dos, mientras que Niggli recupera \u201cSchluss\u201d del disco de Big Zoom Celebrate Diversity<\/i>. Tambi\u00e9n aparecen dos versiones aparentemente dispares: \u201cNaima\u201d de Coltrane que sigue al \u201cAdagio en Fa\u201d de la Sonata para Viol\u00edn BWV 1016 de Bach.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Sin embargo una vez comienza a sonar el CD todo toma sentido ya que los m\u00fasicos ceden su protagonismo y ponen su maestr\u00eda al mando de sus instrumentos, especialmente Biondini y Godard, mientras que Niggli permanece en la retaguardia, a las melod\u00edas. \u00c9stas comienzan con la magn\u00edfica y animada \u201cPowerplay\u201d de Biondini, a la que le sigue la delicada \u201cSur l\u2019\u00e9chelle des sph\u00e8res\u201d de Godard, las dos versiones se\u00f1aladas, la belleza melanc\u00f3lica de \u201cLe sonnet oubli\u00e9\u201d (Godard), y el cierre con la composici\u00f3n de Niggli, el tema m\u00e1s enigm\u00e1tico de esta gran colecci\u00f3n, por se\u00f1alar algunos de los momentos m\u00e1s destacados del CD.<\/div>\n
