Pues hete aqu\u00ed que tenemos al cuarteto de cuerdas (dos violines, viola y violonchelo) Turtle Island Quartet en <i>Have You Ever Been&#8230;?<\/i> enfrent\u00e1ndose a un repertorio de temas interpretados por Jimi Hendrix, al \u00a0que a\u00f1aden un tema de John McLaughlin y una suite de David Balakrishnan, miembro de la formaci\u00f3n.<\/div>\n<p><a name=\"more\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div>En esta ocasi\u00f3n son tan importantes los solos como los arreglos, que en la mayor parte del repertorio <i>hendrixiano <\/i>no trabajan \u00fanicamente sobre las melod\u00edas, sino que se inspiran en las interpretaciones del m\u00edtico guitarrista zurdo. Esto aparece reflejado de un modo notable en la fant\u00e1stica versi\u00f3n del m\u00edtico \u201cVoodoo Child (Slight Return)\u201d.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Dos partes componen el homenaje a Hendrix. Abre el disco una suite en la que revisitan algunos de los temas del m\u00edtico <i>Electric Ladyland<\/i>: \u201cHave You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)\u201d, \u201cHouse Burning Down\u201d, \u201c1983&#8230; A Merman I Should Turn To Be\u201d y \u201cVoodoo Child (Slight Return)\u201d. En la parte final retoman el homenaje con temas del repertorio de Hendrix propios y ajenos. Entre estos \u00faltimos est\u00e1n \u201cHey Joe\u201d (que difiere de la aproximaci\u00f3n de Hendrix, aqu\u00ed con aromas <i>country<\/i>) y una magn\u00edfica versi\u00f3n del tema de Dylan \u201cAll Along The Watchtower\u201d en la que al cuarteto se une Mike Marshall al <i>mandochelo<\/i>. Los dos temas de Hendrix elegidos son \u201cGipsy Eyes\u201d en una vibrante versi\u00f3n en la que brilla el vibrafonista Stefon Harris, y la preciosa \u201cLittle Wing\u201d que en esta ocasi\u00f3n toma la forma de un deslumbrante tema a violonchelo en solitario. Tanto el tema de Dylan como \u201cGipsy Eyes\u201d tambi\u00e9n pertenecen a <i>Electric Ladyland<\/i>, aunque en esta ocasi\u00f3n aparecen interpretados fuera de la suite inicial.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Es posible que en estos tiempos de estirar la duraci\u00f3n de los CD hasta el l\u00edmite, una grabaci\u00f3n de poco m\u00e1s de treinta minutos dedicado monogr\u00e1ficamente a la m\u00fasica de Hendrix fuese un proyecto que no convenciese al grupo o a la discogr\u00e1fica. De ese modo entre las partes inicial y final de la grabaci\u00f3n que aparecen consagradas a Hendrix, incluyen en primer lugar una versi\u00f3n de \u201cTo Bop or Not to Be\u201d de John McLaughlin, y la suite \u201cTree of Life\u201d de David Balakrishnan. Si con el primero de los temas logran una aproximaci\u00f3n al jazz vibrante y animada, la suite (dividida en cuatro movimientos y de media hora de duraci\u00f3n) rompe el ritmo de la grabaci\u00f3n (a pesar de su belleza, o precisamente por ello), y no termina de encajar con el car\u00e1cter del resto de los temas.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Obviando esta cuesti\u00f3n, f\u00e1cilmente resoluble dividiendo la escucha del disco en dos partes, la aproximaci\u00f3n a Hendrix desde la m\u00fasica cl\u00e1sica resulta un experimento fascinante y de resultados m\u00e1s que satisfactorios.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Pachi Tapiz<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Turtle Island Quartet: <i>Have You Ever Been&#8230;?
