Con una carrera que se inici\u00f3 en la d\u00e9cada de los a\u00f1os 60, contin\u00faa todav\u00eda en activo. En <i>Truth Lies In-Between<\/i> intenta realizar una aproximaci\u00f3n entre el jazz y la poes\u00eda que no termina de cuajar.<\/div>\n<p><a name=\"more\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Margriet Naber (teclados) y Ernest Guiraud Ciss\u00e9 (percusiones) acompa\u00f1an el recitado de poemas de John Stewart por parte John Tchicai en las siete piezas m\u00e1s breves del disco. La m\u00fasica no est\u00e1 restringida al jazz (en \u201cMasks\u201d est\u00e1 cercana al <i>tecno)<\/i>, y act\u00faa como un simple colch\u00f3n sonoro.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>La improvisaci\u00f3n aparece intercalada entre las poes\u00edas en los temas m\u00e1s extensos (los instrumentales \u201cOn The Way To Church\u201d, \u201cAt Last Ourselves\u201d y \u201c\u00c9norme Space Inconnu\u201d sobrepasan los nueve minutos). \u00c9stas piezas son unos d\u00faos entre los saxos y las flautas de John Tchicai, y las percusiones de Ernest Guiraud Ciss\u00e9. Lamentablemente no se produce una verdadera interacci\u00f3n entre ambos. Las percusiones africanas aportan un toque de color y cierto car\u00e1cter hipn\u00f3tico a una base sobre la que John Tchicai realiza unas improvisaciones que aunque largas, no resultan demasiado variadas ni imaginativas, que permiten disfrutar de la calidez y amplitud del sonido de su saxo alto. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Finalmente est\u00e1 \u201cOpgenomen\u201d, que abre el disco en su versi\u00f3n instrumental, y lo cierra en su versi\u00f3n vocal. All\u00ed participan los tres m\u00fasicos, pero ni la pianista (cantante en el \u00faltimo tema), ni el percusionista pasan de ser unos meros acompa\u00f1antes de Tchicai. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sin ser un mal disco, ambos g\u00e9neros no terminan de ensamblarse.
