Con una est\u00e9tica que var\u00eda del <i>hard-bop<\/i> al <i>free jazz<\/i>, y en compa\u00f1\u00eda de sus profesores en el <a href=\"http:\/\/bun.tomajazz.com\/2010\/02\/new-england-conservatory-jazz-studies.html\" target=\"_blank\">New England Conservatory<\/a>, es un estreno que en su clasicismo resulta deslumbrante.\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><a name=\"more\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div>Todas las composiciones, salvo \u00abAsk Me Now\u00bb de Monk que abre el disco y la improvisaci\u00f3n colectiva \u00abDestination\u00bb que lo cierra y que podr\u00edan ser algo parecido a una declaraci\u00f3n de principios en cuanto a su contenido y orientaci\u00f3n, son obra de Landrus. Estas piezas fueron escritas pensando en este conjunto en los meses anteriores a entrar en el estudio para registrarlas. Entre ellas las hay que van desde lo <i>post-coltraneano<\/i> (\u00abThe Stream\u00bb), hasta una preciosa balada atemporal como \u00abTo Love and Grow\u00bb. No obstante, influencias aparte, lo m\u00e1s relevante es que son una magn\u00edfica colecci\u00f3n de temas.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Brian Landrus reparte sus intervenciones entre un tr\u00edo de instrumentos no muy habitual: la flauta, el clarinete bajo y el saxo bar\u00edtono. Es especialmente con este \u00faltimo instrumento con el que se muestra m\u00e1s brillante. Salvo \u00abInterpretations\u00bb que toca en solitario, el resto de temas var\u00edan en una formaci\u00f3n que va del cuarteto al sexteto. El tr\u00edo formado por el pianista Michel Cain, el contrabajista John Lockwood y el bater\u00eda y percusionista Bob Moses son sus acompa\u00f1antes fijos. A lo largo del disco las percusiones de Mantilla en seis de los temas, el tenor expresivo de George Garzone en dos, el saxo alto de Allan Chase en otros dos, y la trompeta de Jason Palmer en tres, sirven para a\u00f1adir un colorido extra a las diferentes configuraciones del cuarteto.
