La extensa trayectoria de esta excepcional figura del g\u00e9nero jazz\u00edstico, est\u00e1 avalada por numerosos \u00e1lbumes en diferentes formatos (d\u00faos, tr\u00edos, cuartetos, bandas, orquestas, etc) que incluyen composiciones de una alta categor\u00eda musical, a veces sublimes. Son tantos los temas que presenta en los conciertos de esta gira, que lo habitual es que duren m\u00e1s de dos horas. En San Javier fueron, en concreto, dos horas y media. Una muestra tan generosa como m\u00e1gica, que llen\u00f3 de \u00e9xtasis a los all\u00ed presentes. Pronto vimos, en escena, al resto del cuarteto, con la pieza llamada \u201cSo May It Secretly Begin\u201d (<em>Still Live<\/em>, 1987) y una versi\u00f3n vertiginosa de \u201cHave You Heard\u201d (<em>Letter From Home<\/em>, 1989) en la que el pianista Gwilym Simcock mostr\u00f3 sus buenas habilidades t\u00e9cnicas. La balada, \u201cSirabhorn\u201d (<em>Brigth Size Life<\/em>, 1976) reclam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n callada del p\u00fablico para escuchar las notas limpias y sutiles de la contrabajista Linda May Han Oh, tras la exposici\u00f3n de la guitarra. Es cierto que un formato de grupo a cuarteto no tiene, quiz\u00e1s, la grandiosidad sonora de las grandes formaciones, pero tiene tambi\u00e9n sus singularidades, como en la partitura en versi\u00f3n corta de \u201cBetter Days Ahead\u201d, que tocaron de forma impecable, con solos de Simcock. Metheny, tiene composiciones emocionantes que le elevan el esp\u00edritu a uno, y \u201cJames\u201d (<em>Offramp<\/em>, 1981) puede ser una de ellas. De nuevo tomaba un cambio de din\u00e1mica, en la que expuso algunas piezas en solitario con la guitarra ac\u00fastica, reposando el ambiente y preparando la \u00faltima parte del concierto, en la que configur\u00f3 d\u00faos y tr\u00edos con sus compa\u00f1eros. Casi al final de la sesi\u00f3n hizo un repaso de sus temas m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticos con versiones acortadas, para despedirse de forma culminante con \u201cSong For Bilbao\u201d.
