Desde que <strong>Jos\u00e9 Ortega y Gasset<\/strong> la fundara en 1923, <em>Revista de Occidente<\/em>, ha sido una publicaci\u00f3n interesada en las corrientes m\u00e1s innovadoras del pensamiento y la creaci\u00f3n art\u00edstica y literaria de Europa y Am\u00e9rica; adem\u00e1s, ha sido un importante catalizador y difusor de la cultura espa\u00f1ola en todo el mundo hispano. La revista inici\u00f3 su cuarta y actual etapa en 1980 y desde entonces se han publicado m\u00e1s de 400 n\u00fameros. En febrero de 1989, dedic\u00f3 su n\u00famero 93 al jazz.<\/p>\n<p>El \u00edndice est\u00e1 compuesto por diferentes aproximaciones, tanto a la m\u00fasica como a la cultura jazz, escritas por autores espa\u00f1oles. \u201cUn viaje sin plano\u201d de <strong>Mariano Antol\u00edn Rato<\/strong>, \u201cEl jazz y la ficci\u00f3n\u201d escrito por <strong>Antonio Mu\u00f1oz Molina<\/strong>, \u201cEl efecto jazz\u201d firmado por <strong>Gonzalo Abril<\/strong>, \u201cEl sonido de un s\u00edmbolo\u201d de <strong>Ildefonso Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, \u201cNica o el sue\u00f1o de Nica\u201d por <strong>Ebbe Traberg<\/strong>, \u201cDisquisici\u00f3n de un mani\u00e1tico\u201d de <strong>Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Rubio<\/strong>, \u201cEl arte que borbotea en la marmita\u201d por <strong>Javier de Cambra<\/strong>, y \u201cDiez poemas\u201d de <strong>Gustavo Dom\u00ednguez<\/strong> \u2013dedicados a diez m\u00fasicos de jazz, m\u00e1s las ilustraciones de <strong>Pedro Arjona<\/strong>, completan el contenido del n\u00famero dedicado al jazz. Adem\u00e1s, el volumen contiene otros art\u00edculos, entre los que cabe destacar el ensayo de <strong>Clifford Geertz<\/strong>, \u201cEstar aqu\u00ed: \u00bfde qu\u00e9 vida se trata al fin y al cabo?\u201d, p\u00e1ginas 85-108, sobre la construcci\u00f3n del texto etnogr\u00e1fico.<\/p>\n<p>Como digo, volver a releer el monogr\u00e1fico casi treinta a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s vale la pena. La perspectiva del tiempo en la inevitable comparaci\u00f3n con el presente da para mucho. Una publicaci\u00f3n singular, a tener en cuenta en la bibliograf\u00eda hist\u00f3rica sobre el mundo del jazz en Espa\u00f1a.
