Fue el primer LP que public\u00f3 y la primera vez que su banda pod\u00eda mostrar en disco lo que tocaban en concierto sin reducirlo al est\u00e1ndar de tres minutos propio de los discos de 78 rpm. Aprovechando los nuevos 33 1\/3 rpm, que permit\u00edan grabar y publicar piezas m\u00e1s largas, Ellington elabora unos arreglos que otorgan nueva vida a temas ya conocidos, haci\u00e9ndolos sonar de forma diferente, las nuevas orquestaciones les infunde otra identidad sonora.<\/p>\n<p>El \u00e1lbum est\u00e1 compuesto por versiones extendidas y modernizadas de temas originalmente estrenados a principios de los a\u00f1os 30 \u2013s\u00f3lo \u201cThe Tattooed Bride\u201d era una composici\u00f3n reciente cuando se grab\u00f3 el disco. <em>Masterpieces<\/em> es uno de los m\u00e1s celebrados discos de Ellington, una experiencia sonora que confirma al m\u00fasico en el lugar que ocupa en el Olimpo hist\u00f3rico del jazz.
