Es hermoso. Es un genio. Es <em>cool<\/em>. Es un borde.<\/p>\n<p>Es Miles Davis. O lo era. Lo fue. Fue todo eso durante los casi cincuenta a\u00f1os que se dedic\u00f3 a crear buena parte de la mejor m\u00fasica que ha dado el g\u00e9nero del jazz. Rompi\u00f3 las convenciones musicales del momento y cuando lo que hab\u00eda creado iba a convertirse a su vez en algo convencional, lo abandonaba y segu\u00eda avanzando.<\/p>\n<p>Casi como era de esperar, fue una persona controvertida, y los adjetivos que se emplean para describirle como persona no suelen ser precisamente amables: asocial, arrogante, conflictivo, toxic\u00f3mano\u2026 \u201c<em>Por momentos, la persona eclipsaba al m\u00fasico. Le gustaban las mujeres, pero era un maltratador. Intelectual y junkie. Un buen amigo y un mal padre<\/em>\u201d, son palabras de Stanley Nelson, director del film documental <em>Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>La pel\u00edcula hizo su <em>premiere<\/em> en el Festival de Sundance a principios de 2019, lleg\u00f3 a los cines USA hacia el verano y ahora, desde hace unas semanas, Netflix la ofrece a sus abonados. Ha sido producida por Firelight Eagle Rock Films y fue nominada en la anterior edici\u00f3n de los Grammy en la categor\u00eda de \u201cMejor Film Musical\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson hace, en mi opini\u00f3n, un excelente trabajo y se le nota que domina el oficio de la narraci\u00f3n f\u00edlmica. Se trata de un experimentado cineasta, dedicado sobre todo a \u201cexplorar la experiencia Afroamericana\u201d a lo largo de la historia, que ha logrado numerosos premios, incluidos 3 Emmys. Cierto que no ofrece en su documental t\u00e9cnicas especialmente novedosas \u2013 los bustos parlantes, son un recurso muy visto, por ejemplo \u2013 pero cumple su funci\u00f3n mejor que bien. Las secuencias son \u00e1giles y la narraci\u00f3n en <em>off<\/em> de la supuesta voz del protagonista, a cargo del actor Carl Lumbly, resulta original y mantiene el inter\u00e9s a lo largo del film.<\/p>\n<p>Otra cosa es el retrato que ofrece de Miles D. y ah\u00ed s\u00ed que podr\u00edamos estar discutiendo hasta que se termine la cuarentena. Nelson ha elegido un punto de ecuanimidad y ha intentado mostrar tanto al m\u00fasico excepcional, como al ser humano lleno de imperfecciones. Tal vez pone el acento en lo primero, pero esto es algo comprensible; no se trata de un film de denuncia, sino todo lo contrario. Ha querido destacar los enormes logros musicales del trompetista, ep\u00edtome del <em>cool jazz<\/em>, pero sin ocultar en absoluto sus deficiencias como ser humano.<\/p>\n<p>La pel\u00edcula no revelar\u00e1 nada nuevo a los amantes del jazz, pues todo lo que en ella aparece les resultar\u00e1 ya familiar. Sin embargo, estoy convencido de que incluso para ellos, dedicar casi dos horas a verla ser\u00e1 lo suficientemente placentero como para que al terminar concluyan que ha merecido la pena. Y eso es lo mejor que se puede decir sobre <em>Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Texto: \u00a9 <strong>Juan F.
