Activo en la zona de Los Angeles e involucrado con la escena de vanguardia y en el activismo en su comunidad local, fue calificado como problem\u00e1tico por el <em>establishment<\/em> musical. Debido a esto, no tuvo la oportunidad de hacerse el hueco en la escena internacional que merec\u00eda por su calidad art\u00edstica. Cuando parec\u00eda que comenzaba a tener su parte del reconocimiento internacional que se hab\u00eda ganado a lo largo de las cuatro d\u00e9cadas anteriores, falleci\u00f3 de un c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n. Esto se tradujo en una discograf\u00eda como pianista que comenz\u00f3 muy tarde (su primera grabaci\u00f3n como l\u00edder es <strong><em>The Giant Is Awakened<\/em><\/strong> de 1969), pero en la que hay verdaderas joyas como la grabaci\u00f3n mencionada, o el inmenso doble CD <strong><em>The Dark Tree<\/em><\/strong> (1991).<\/p>\n<p>En la d\u00e9cada de los a\u00f1os 60 Horace Tapscott puso en pie la formaci\u00f3n <strong>The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra<\/strong>. Si bien este grupo estuvo activo a lo largo de las siguientes d\u00e9cadas, no fueron demasiadas las veces que pas\u00f3 por el estudio de grabaci\u00f3n hasta que el pianista comenz\u00f3 a publicar sus obras en el sello Nimbus a partir de finales de la d\u00e9cada de los a\u00f1os 70. Es por este motivo que resulta especialmente destacable <strong><em>Ancestral Echoes<\/em><\/strong>, con temas grabados en estudio en 1976 y que ha sido publicado por el sello franc\u00e9s Dark Tree con permiso de la Horace Tapscott Family.<\/p>\n<p>En la grabaci\u00f3n aparecen cuatro temas que duran entre 10 y 28 minutos. \u00abAncestral Echoes\u00bb fue un encargo, y \u00abSketches of Drunken Mary\u00bb (que aparecer\u00eda posteriormente en <em>The Dark Tree<\/em>), son composiciones de Tapscott. \u00abJo Annette\u00bb es obra de Guido Sinclair, y la extensa \u00abEternal Egypt Suite\u00bb es una composici\u00f3n de Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq. La m\u00fasica se mueve por terrenos libres con aromas que remiten hacia Africa.
