Por no ir mucho m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de sus grabaciones en el sello brit\u00e1nico, adem\u00e1s de como integrante del grupo Pago Libre, Brennan ha grabado con Evan Parker, Christy Doran o Paul Rutherford, entre otros. En <em>Nitty Gritty Ditties <\/em>recupera 33 temas tanto jazz\u00edsticos como pertenecientes al pop, al rock o a la m\u00fasica cl\u00e1sica, que le han influido a lo largo de su vida. En versiones breves recupera composiciones de The Rolling Stones (fabuloso \u201cWe Love You\u201d), Carla Bley (\u201cUtviklingssang\u201d), Bartok (\u201cMikrokosmos 73 y 82\u201d), Kenny Wheeler (\u201cGentle Piece\u201d), Monpou (\u201cImpresiones \u00cdntimas 2\u201d), Charlie Haden (\u201cSilence\u201d), Yann Tiersen (\u201cDerni\u00e8re\u201d), Davis \u2013 Evans (\u201cBlue In Green\u201d),Tom Waits (\u201cTango\u201d), o Pat Metheny (\u201cAs A Flower Blossoms\u201d), por citar algunos de los temas. Ya lo hizo junto a John Zorn, Joey Baron, Michael Vatcher y Mark Dresser en el brutal <a href=\"https:\/\/tomajazz.com\/web\/?p=1569\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Spy Vs. Spy<\/em><\/a>. En <strong><em>Broken Shadows<\/em><\/strong> (Intakt Records) retoma, con m\u00e1s tranquilidad que en la grabaci\u00f3n mencionada, el repertorio del compositor harmol\u00f3dico. Lo hace en compa\u00f1\u00eda de Chris Speed (saxo tenor), y la r\u00edtmica de The Bad Plus (Dave King, bater\u00eda, y Reid Anderson, contrabajo). En esta ocasi\u00f3n adem\u00e1s de temas de Ornette Coleman, rinde un homenaje a su mentor Julius Hemphill (\u201cBody\u201d y \u201cDogon A.D.\u201d), e incluye sendas composiciones de Charlie Haden (\u201cSong For Ch\u00e9\u201d), y Dewy Redman (\u201cWalls-Bridges\u201d). El grupo comenz\u00f3 en 2017 a partir de una conversaci\u00f3n entre Tim Berne y Chris Speed para conseguir un grupo para tocar en Brooklyn. Estos dos viejos conocidos consiguieron enrolar en su proyecto a los dos tercios r\u00edtmicos del The Bad Plus, y lo que comenz\u00f3 como un proyecto inicialmente orientado al escenario, sin temas previos ni ensayos, ha devenido en esta propuesta centrada en homenajear la m\u00fasica de Coleman, Hemphill, Haden y Redman. Con un planteamiento centrado en las composiciones como veh\u00edculo para la improvisaci\u00f3n, tal y como indica Branford Marsalis en las notas del disco, resulta un placer la manera en que revisan piezas como \u201cUna muy bonita\u201d, \u201cC.O.D.\u201d, \u201cSong For Ch\u00e9\u201d, \u201cBody\u201d o \u201cEcars\u201d. En <strong><em>Untucked In Hannover <\/em><\/strong>(Intakt) el quinteto recupera grandes cl\u00e1sicos como \u201cIf I Should Lose You\u201d, \u201cStella by Starlight\u201d, \u201cWhat\u2019s New\u201d, \u201cThere Is No Greater Love\u201d, \u201cI Fall In Love Too Easyly\u201d, \u201cJust In Time\u201d, \u201cIn Your Own Sweet Way\u201d, o \u201cLong Ago and Far Away\u201d. Como bien se puede apreciar, es una lista de temas que se han interpretado una y otra vez a lo largo de la historia del jazz. La grabaci\u00f3n muestra a un quinteto de m\u00fasicos rindiendo homenaje y mostrando su respeto ante estas obras maestras, realizando unas versiones llenas de espacios, que logran un precioso equilibrio entre la belleza de las melod\u00edas originales y el resultado de sus improvisaciones.
