Teniendo en cuenta su avanzada edad, su larga carrera musical y su amplia discograf\u00eda, no tenemos m\u00e1s remedio que inclinarnos ante esta leyenda del jazz, que contin\u00faa d\u00e1ndolo todo en sus conciertos. Hac\u00eda tiempo que no ve\u00eda a un m\u00fasico tan entregado como \u00e9l sobre un escenario. La \u00faltima vez que le escuch\u00e9 en directo fue tambi\u00e9n en San Javier, en 2011, donde protagoniz\u00f3 una sesi\u00f3n memorable. El pianista, acompa\u00f1ado, en esta ocasi\u00f3n, por el contrabajista Paul Berner y el baterista Jason Brown, hizo gala de toda su sabidur\u00eda y buen hacer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: 627w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alexander arranc\u00f3 su concierto con una pieza titulada \u201cReggae Later\u201d, pasando por varios ritmos e intercalando citas de varias melod\u00edas como \u201cMilestones\u201d de Miles Davis, improvisada a un tempo r\u00e1pido. El jazz y los ritmos caribe\u00f1os van de la mano en muchos de sus temas, es su punto de partida, como en \u201cWe\u2019ve Only Just Begun\u201d (Roger Nichols \/ Paul Williams). Con los dos primeros temas ya ten\u00eda ganado a un entusiasta aforo. Por supuesto no pod\u00eda faltar su particular homenaje al rey del <em>reggae<\/em> Bob Marley, interpretando \u201cNo Woman, No Cry\u201d. Para continuar con el repertorio tocaron el divertido <em>calypso<\/em> \u201cFunji Mama\u201d, un tema largo en el que Alexander mostr\u00f3 su gran flexibilidad y maestr\u00eda con el instrumento, recurriendo a melod\u00edas como la de \u201cSt. Thomas\u201d de Sonny Rollins, y en el que pudimos disfrutar del primer solo de bater\u00eda de Brown. Introducir algunas citas mel\u00f3dicas de otros temas en el desarrollo de las improvisaciones es usual en el pianista. Tras presentar al grupo, iniciaron \u201cNothing Ever Changes My Love For You\u201d (Marvin Fisher \/ Jack Segal) popularmente conocida en la voz de Nat King Cole, a ritmo de <em>bossa<\/em>, citando esta vez la melod\u00eda de \u201cAs Time Goes By\u201d de Herman Hupfeld. La c\u00e1lida noche y la densa humedad del ambiente acompa\u00f1aron al <em>blues<\/em> \u201cNight Mist Blues\u201d de su admirado pianista y compa\u00f1ero Ahmad Jamal. Un tema lento en la exposici\u00f3n que fue subiendo a ritmo de <em>swing<\/em> en la parte de improvisaci\u00f3n, jugando con sus compa\u00f1eros, Berner y Brown, sobre estructuras de ocho compases, despu\u00e9s de un corto solo de bater\u00eda. A Alexander, evidentemente, le gusta hacer versiones de lo m\u00e1s variadas, escogiendo temas como \u201cWhat\u2019s Going On\u201d de Marvin Gaye, y pasar de una a otra melod\u00eda, a veces enlazadas. La sesi\u00f3n ya iba finalizando, pero antes tocaron una adaptaci\u00f3n sui g\u00e9neris del \u201cConcierto de Aranjuez\u201d. En una de esas mezclas de melod\u00edas comenz\u00f3 con \u201cSummertime\u201d, para continuar con \u00abStranger In The Night\u201d, y otras piezas tocadas de pie con la mel\u00f3dica. El encantado aforo honr\u00f3 con largos aplausos y v\u00edtores la presencia del pianista y su pasional entrega a lo largo del concierto.
