La primera, <em>Sacred Ceremonies<\/em>, compuesta de tres cedes, es una reuni\u00f3n de tres verdaderos maestros, Smith, Bill Laswell y Milford Graves, del que pronto se cumplir\u00e1 un a\u00f1o desde su fallecimiento. La otra, <em>Trumpet<\/em>, es otra caja de tres discos en una muy inspirada grabaci\u00f3n de trompeta solista capturada en un hermoso escenario hist\u00f3rico. Una de ellas a d\u00fao con Smith y Graves, otra en dueto con Smith y Laswell y la tercera ya con Smith, Laswell y Graves. Cada uno de los tres incluye composiciones propias de Smith y otras improvisadas colectivamente en el estudio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBill y yo tuvimos el gran placer de grabar este proyecto especial de dueto y tr\u00edo con Milford Graves y dedicarle esta m\u00fasica. Milford fue uno de los m\u00e1s grandes bateristas de nuestro tiempo, quien reform\u00f3 la forma en que se tocan los ritmos en la bater\u00eda\u201d, ha declarado Wadada Leo Smith a prop\u00f3sito del que fuera uno de los m\u00e1s grandes bater\u00edas de la vanguardia.<\/p>\n<p>En la sesi\u00f3n a d\u00fao de trompeta de Smith y la bater\u00eda de Graves se pone de manifiesto toda la sabidur\u00eda musical que atesoran ambos. A partir de ah\u00ed, todo puede pasar y las distintas combinaciones sonoras se suceden, llegando a puntos de convergencia y divergencia a partes iguales. Ninguna voz supera a la otra.<\/p>\n<p>La trompeta de Smith siempre trasciende m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los sonidos conocidos y traspasa barreras. En cada momento se transforma y nos traslada a esas \u201cceremonias sagradas\u201d en las que en los ritos se funden con lo universal.<\/p>\n<p>Las percusiones de Graves y Smith exploran los ritmos espirituales que nos unen a todos. Laswell y Smith realizan un trabajo introspectivo y nos llevan por terrenos sonoros sorpresivos. Smith, Laswell y Graves avanzan sin pedir permiso y siempre desafiantes. Tres d\u00edas encerrado en un marco especial durante una semana de verano como es una iglesia medieval en la ciudad de Pohja, en la costa sur de Finlandia, dan para mucho material y el resultado as\u00ed lo atestigua. Un maratoniano ejercicio de desnudez musical, donde Wadada Leo Smith ha querido dar rienda suelta a sus inquietudes y sentimientos m\u00e1s profundos.<\/p>\n<p>Los temas est\u00e1n inspirados y dedicados a personajes muy admirados por el trompetista, empezando por el saxofonista Albert Ayler, pero tambi\u00e9n por los trompetistas Howard McGee, Miles Davis, Steve McCall, los poetas Leroy Jenkins y James Baldwin, la pianista y compositora Amina Claudine Myers y Reggie Workman. Otros de los homenajeados son \u00abMalik al-Shabazz and the People of the Shahada\u00bb, el nombre de Malcolm X despu\u00e9s de convertirse en musulm\u00e1n suf\u00ed. La suite espiritual \u00abRashomon\u00bb se inspira en la pel\u00edcula de 1950 de Akira Kurosawa, \u201cThe Great Litany: A Reflective Memory of al-Shadhili, Parts 1-5\u201d, as\u00ed como otras dos suites \u201cDiscourses on the Sufi Path: A Remembrance of Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh, Parts 1-4\u201d y \u201cFamily: A Contemplation of Love, Parts 1-4\u201d. Todos ellos abarcan unos discursos sonoros muy ambiciosos, directos, libres<\/p>\n<p>El resultado es m\u00fasica llevada a un grado de abstracci\u00f3n, claridad, sinceridad y precisi\u00f3n, transformada a lo que podr\u00eda significar la esencia y la pureza musical.
