Vean si no este estupendo \u00e1lbum-homenaje \u2014hay quien le ha llamado \u00e1lbum-legado, dada la edad de los artistas\u2014 que har\u00e1 las delicias tanto de los seguidores de uno de los m\u00e1s ilustres <em>jazzmen<\/em> de la d\u00e9cada maldita (\u00a1esos fat\u00eddicos 1920\u2019s!), como de los amantes del jazz vocal. El m\u00e9rito se debe a Roseanna Vitro, veterana cantante (1951, Hot Springs, Arkansas), que lleva m\u00e1s de cuarenta a\u00f1os subiendo a los escenarios de medio mundo.<\/p>\n<p>En este tiempo, Vitro ha acumulado influencias de cl\u00e1sicos, como Bill Evans o Ray Charles, pero tambi\u00e9n de m\u00fasicas aut\u00f3ctonas de los pa\u00edses que ha visitado y dado que asegura haber estado en todos los continentes salvo la Ant\u00e1rtica, no cabe duda de que su bagaje musical es, como suele decirse, s\u00f3lido.<\/p>\n<p>Se trata de su decimoquinto \u00e1lbum y, en esta ocasi\u00f3n, ha elegido por acompa\u00f1antes a cantantes tan experimentados como ella misma. El primero es Bob Dorough, vocalista, pianista, compositor, arreglista y lo que se les ocurra. Robert Lrod Dorough naci\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n en Arkansas, solo que veintiocho a\u00f1os antes de Roseanna. Dorough acompa\u00f1a a Vitro en \u201cThe Scatter (Red Cross)\u201d y \u201cThese Foolish Things\u201d e interpreta en solitario \u201cAudubon\u2019s New Bluebird (Bluebird)\u201d. Resulta sorprendentemente agradable descubrir que en el momento de grabarlos, a sus noventa y cuatro a\u00f1os, Dorough conservaba buena parte de sus recursos vocales. El cantante fallecer\u00eda en 2018, un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s de dejarnos este legado vocal.<\/p>\n<p>La siguiente invitada es Sheila Jordan, otra veterana (1928, Detroit), maestra del <em>bebop<\/em> y del <em>scat<\/em>, como demuestra en \u201cQuasimodo\u201d y en \u201cBird\u2019s Song (Relaxin\u2019 at Camarillo)\u201d. Por otro lado, a ella y a Dorough debemos el m\u00e9rito de buena parte de las letras de las canciones que acompa\u00f1an a la m\u00fasica de Parker.<\/p>\n<p>Tenemos luego a Marion Cowings (1946, New York City), otra leyenda del jazz y cuya suave voz de bar\u00edtono lleva d\u00e9cadas desgranando baladas junto a los mejores m\u00fasicos del g\u00e9nero. Roseanna asegura que lo primero que le llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n de Cowings, cuando se encontraron por primera vez (\u00a1hace cuarenta a\u00f1os!), fue su excelente dicci\u00f3n y dominio del <em>bebop<\/em>. Pues bien, hoy y aqu\u00ed, Marion Cowings demuestra en \u201cParker\u2019s Mood\u201d y en \u201cNow\u2019s The Time\u201d que, en lo que se refiere a t\u00e9cnica vocal, sigue en plena forma.<\/p>\n<p>Vitro, por su parte, a la altura de todos los anteriores, abre la selecci\u00f3n cantando en solitario \u201cPeople Chase (Steeplechase)\u201d y a\u00f1ade m\u00e1s tarde \u201cGrapple With the Apple (Scrapple From The Aple)\u201d y \u201cYarbird Suite\u201d. Encontramos tambi\u00e9n un tema instrumental, \u201cKo Ko \/ Cherokee\u201d, a cargo del saxo alto Gary Bartz, el teclado de Broadbent y las baquetas de Alvester Garnett.<\/p>\n<p>El tema despedida, el duod\u00e9cimo, es \u201cThese Foolish Things\u201d con Vitro, Dorough y Jordan, que deja un estupendo sabor de boca, como debe ser tras esta degustaci\u00f3n de alto nivel que es <em>Sing A Song Of Bird<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Por \u00faltimo, y para completar el cuadro, decir que los cuatro vocalistas se hacen acompa\u00f1ar \u2014no pod\u00eda ser de otra manera\u2014 por m\u00fasicos de primer nivel, dando como resultado una joya que, adem\u00e1s de hacernos disfrutar musicalmente hablando, sirve a la perfecci\u00f3n para demostrar que la veteran\u00eda sigue siendo un grado.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Tomajazz: \u00a9 <strong>Juan F.
