Hab\u00eda recibido una beca de la Fundaci\u00f3n Guggenheim; el a\u00f1o anterior se hab\u00eda estrenado un ballet con su m\u00fasica. Adem\u00e1s, estaba mostrando sus buenas maneras en las grabaciones de esta \u00faltima parte de su carrera: al a\u00f1os siguiente publicar\u00eda <em>Let My Children Hear Music<\/em>, un pilar en su discograf\u00eda. Tanto es as\u00ed, que grab\u00f3 profesionalmente con un ocho pistas sus dos conciertos en el Ronnie Scott de Londres en agosto de ese a\u00f1o. Hay que a\u00f1adir que al a\u00f1o siguiente publicar\u00eda tambi\u00e9n su autobiograf\u00eda <em>Beneath The Underdoog<\/em> (t\u00edtulo traducido como <em>Menos que un perro<\/em> en espa\u00f1ol).<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, esas cintas nunca vieron la luz. Atlantic despidi\u00f3 al contrabajista (y al resto de m\u00fasicos de jazz salvo a Miles Davis) en 1973, y las cintas con la grabaci\u00f3n de esos conciertos pasaron a manos de Sue Mingus. En 2022 Resonance Records pone en circulaci\u00f3n dos horas y media de Mingus in\u00e9dito con la autorizaci\u00f3n de Jazz Workshop Inc., que es el ente encargado de administrar el legado art\u00edstico del enorme contrabajista.<\/p>\n<h4>Los directos: o de lo nuevo y de lo antiguo&#8230;<\/h4>\n<p>Para su visita a Inglaterra cont\u00f3 con un sexteto muy bien armado. En \u00e9l estaban todav\u00eda los saxofonistas Bobby Jones y Charles McPherson. En cuanto a las novedades, Jon Foster sustituy\u00f3 al pianista Jaki Byard, mientras que el baterista Roy Brooks sustituy\u00f3 a Dannie Richmond. El sexto componente en este grupo fue el joven trompetista de 19 a\u00f1os Jon Faddis, un m\u00fasico protegido de Dizzy Gillespie.<\/p>\n<p>En cuanto al repertorio, dos temas duran en torno a los veinte minutos, y otros tres en torno a la media hora. El resto, bastante m\u00e1s cortos, son versiones de cl\u00e1sicos entre los cl\u00e1sicos de la historia del jazz: un breve e intenso \u00abAir Mail Special\u00bb, \u00abWhen The Saints Go Marching In\u00bb que sirve para servir una ronda de solos en el local londinense, y \u00abKo Ko\u00bb que en sus 45 segundos sirve justo para exponer el tema.<\/p>\n<p>El repertorio propio, el resto de temas, extensos, sirvi\u00f3 para mostrar al p\u00fablico londinense el universo creativo de Mingus. \u00abOrange Was The Color Of Her Dress, Then Silk Blue\u00bb era en ese momento un tema in\u00e9dito, que muestra ya en toda su plenitud lo que mostrar\u00eda m\u00e1s adelante en las grabaciones en estudio. \u00abMind-Readers&#8217; Convention In Milano\u00bb era en ese momento igualmente una pieza in\u00e9dita, puro universo mingusiano a su vez, con sus cambios de tempo, enigm\u00e1tico y con una enorme tensi\u00f3n contenida. Tambi\u00e9n se puede disfrutar de una extensa versi\u00f3n (35 minutos) del eterno \u00abFables Of Faubus\u00bb, estridente, con una m\u00fasica por momentos muy libre, y con Mingus haciendo un solo lleno de citas a otros temas. En los otros dos temas \u00abNoddin&#8217; Ya Head Blues\u00bb el grupo se encamina por los terrenos del (\u00a1no pod\u00eda ser de otro modo!) blues (\u00a1oh yeah!). \u00abThe Man Who Never Sleeps\u00bb es un tema a tempo medio, que muestra nuevamente la pericia de Mingus como compositor.<\/p>\n<p>De cualquier modo, sean temas propios o ajenos, m\u00e1s extensos o m\u00e1s cortos, el sexteto se muestra espl\u00e9ndido, tanto en sus solos (muy curioso escuchar al baterista Roy Brooks a la sierra musical), como en su trabajo conjunto.<\/p>\n<h4>Ediciones: o de c\u00f3mo complementar la m\u00fasica&#8230;<\/h4>\n<p>Si a la m\u00fasica, espl\u00e9ndida, se une un libreto de m\u00e1s de 60 p\u00e1ginas para el CD con fotograf\u00edas de carteles y del grupo en su actuaci\u00f3n, un art\u00edculo y una entrevista a Charles Mingus y Charles McPherson en 1972 del experto en la obra del contrabajista Brian Prestley, junto con los testimonios (actuales) de McPherson, Fran Lebowitz, Christian McBride o Eddie Gomez entre otros, el monumento resultante, Charles Mingus <em>The Lost Album From Ronnie Scott&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em> es una cita ineludible para los seguidores de Mingus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Tomajazz.
