Pero as\u00ed es como le gusta al l\u00edder de la formaci\u00f3n, el neozeland\u00e9s Alan Broadbent, quien asegura sentir aversi\u00f3n a los arreglos \u201ccerrados\u201d en los que cada m\u00fasico tiene prefijadas de antemano las notas que debe tocar.<\/p>\n<p>Y esto no deja de ser curioso, pues Broadbent es bien conocido por sus arreglos para cantantes como Buble, McCartney, Krall, Metheny o Natalie Cole, arreglos que le han merecido dos Grammys en la categor\u00eda de Mejores Arreglos Orquestales para Acompa\u00f1amiento Vocal. Se ve que cuando sale de la \u201coficina\u201d y se junta con sus \u201camigotes\u201d \u2014en este caso Harvie S, contrabajo, y Mintz, bater\u00eda\u2014 lo que le apetece hacer, es justo lo contrario, es decir, dejarse llevar por la inspiraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Porque eso es lo primero que se necesita para que una buena <em>jam session<\/em> funcione: ese toque, esa chispa creativa de la que todos hemos o\u00eddo hablar, pero que solo unos pocos artistas tienen. Y lo segundo es una sincronizaci\u00f3n perfecta entre los miembros de la formaci\u00f3n, pero de esto tambi\u00e9n van sobrados en el Trio. De hecho, y en opini\u00f3n de Broadbent, no dejan de mejorar sus habilidades para inter-comunicarse a trav\u00e9s de la m\u00fasica.<\/p>\n<p><em>Like Minds<\/em> (Savant Records, 2022) es una buena muestra de todo lo anterior, como ocurre, por ejemplo, en \u201cYardbird Suite\u201d, de Charlie Parker, donde cada uno de ellos reacciona a los gestos musicales de los otros dos, con una precisi\u00f3n que podr\u00eda hacer pensar que lo ten\u00edan hablado de antemano.<\/p>\n<p>En otros temas, como en \u201cThis I Dig of You\u201d, de Hank Mobley, el trio prioriza la sencillez, lo que produce la enga\u00f1osa sensaci\u00f3n de que lo que est\u00e1n haciendo es f\u00e1cil. En el resto de los temas, la filosof\u00eda es muy similar: dejarse llevar por la inspiraci\u00f3n y convertir en suyos temas bien conocidos, como \u201cBlue Pearl\u201d, de Bud Powell, \u201cAiregin\u201d, de Sonny Rollins, o \u201cStairway to the Stars\u201d, de Bill Evans.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo y como hemos dicho, para que el truco funcione, se requiere un alto grado de inspiraci\u00f3n y destreza. Eso s\u00ed; los temas han sido cuidadosamente elegidos para permitirles desarrollar sus improvisaciones, temas que, para empezar, son en s\u00ed mismos peque\u00f1as obras maestras. Como \u201cThis Is New\u201d, de Kurt Weill e Ira Gerswin, del que Broadbent dice: \u201c<em>Espl\u00e9ndido. La maestr\u00eda de peque\u00f1as composiciones como esta es realmente perfecta. Mientras que Mahler necesita una hora y media, a Kurt Weill le bastan 45 segundos. Pero todo viene de la misma fuente creativa<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Y es que, como el propio Broadbent dice, \u201c<em>el jazz no es un estilo, es un sentimiento<\/em>\u201d.
