Adem\u00e1s de ser una zona muy tur\u00edstica, alberga un magn\u00edfico Conservatorio y una de las mejores orquestas de jazz del continente, que es como decir que, por su privilegio y categor\u00eda, puede ser considerada la orquesta nacional de jazz de Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>Entre sus m\u00faltiples proyectos, la Orquesta de Jazz de Matosinhos ha entrado en el fascinante mundo de George Russell, figura clave del jazz de los 60, a trav\u00e9s de uno de sus discos m\u00e1s aclamados e influyentes como <em>Jazz in the Space Age<\/em>, del que la Orquesta ha dejado testimonio de ello en una grabaci\u00f3n de 2019.<\/p>\n<p>George Russell llev\u00f3 los sonidos de las big bands de corte cl\u00e1sico tipo Duke Ellington y Count Basie a la era moderna, y <em>Jazz in the Space Age<\/em>, contiene todos los elementos para conocer cu\u00e1les fueron sus influencias y sus grandes aportaciones a las orquestas. En el disco tocaban 17 m\u00fasicos m\u00e1s dos pianistas, Bill Evans y Paul Blay, casi nada. Con menor presencia de las melod\u00edas escritas y mayores posibilidades para que los m\u00fasicos se expresen en las improvisaciones con mayor libertad. Los metales, especialmente bar\u00edtono, tenores y trompetas y trombones, se mantienen siempre en primera l\u00ednea con un fondo r\u00edtmico potente.<\/p>\n<p>El protagonismo del recital fue para \u201cJazz in the Space Age\u201d, que se compone de seis temas de Rusell, tres de los cuales son movimientos no consecutivos de una obra m\u00e1s grande llamada \u00abChromatic Universe\u00bb, junto con \u201cDimensions \u201c, The Lydiot\u201d y \u201cWaltz From Outer Space\u201d. Todas composiciones ambiciosas y muy avanzadas para su \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n<p>Como en las sesiones de Russell, la formaci\u00f3n portuguesa re\u00fane a un total de 17 m\u00fasicos con dos pianos, tres trompetas, tres trombones, dos saxos tenores, alto y bar\u00edtono, teclados, guitarra, contrabajo y bater\u00eda. El concierto transcurri\u00f3 con el desarrollo de profundas armon\u00edas y ritmos que lograron mantener siempre un buen swing. Los arreglos rallan casi la perfecci\u00f3n para que la banda suene con una atractiva cadencia durante todo el concierto.<\/p>\n<p>Loa juegos de percusi\u00f3n experimental creaban en las piezas contrastados ambientes. Virelles e Iverson intervienen para matizar y colorear en algunos momentos, aunque este \u00faltimo se prodig\u00f3 bastante poco.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abThe Lydiot\u00bb presenta una melod\u00eda a medio tempo y pronto da paso a solos que contin\u00faan y parecen superponerse de vez en cuando.
