PNL Records, 2022)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>En 2023 la <strong>Large Unit<\/strong> cumplir\u00e1 su d\u00e9cimo aniversario. Como preludio a las celebraciones de la primera d\u00e9cada, <strong>Paal Nilssen-Love<\/strong>, el baterista y percusionista noruego y l\u00edder de la formaci\u00f3n, publica en <strong>PNL Records<\/strong> casi al final del a\u00f1o 2022 (la fecha de lanzamiento es el d\u00eda 16 de diciembre), dos nuevas grabaciones tituladas <em>Clusterfuck<\/em> y <em>New Map<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ambo discos se registraron entre el 22 y el 24 de septiembre de 2021 en Studio Paradiso en Oslo, Noruega. Para ello Paal Nilssen-Love reuni\u00f3 a un pentadecateto de m\u00fasicos, habituales en la Large Unit, formado por una secci\u00f3n con seis instrumentos de viento madera \u2013 metal: tres saxos \u2013 clarinetes, trompeta, tromb\u00f3n y tuba; otra secci\u00f3n de guitarra, arpa, acorde\u00f3n y electr\u00f3nica; a ello se a\u00f1adieron dos contrabajistas y tres bateristas \u2013 percusionistas.<\/p>\n<p>Ambas grabaciones, si bien se mueven en los terrenos de la improvisaci\u00f3n habituales de la Large Unit, son distintas en cuanto a su planteamiento. Para <strong><em>Clusterfuck<\/em> <\/strong>la estrategia para desarrollar la m\u00fasica fue la del empleo de notaciones gr\u00e1ficas. En <strong><em>New Map<\/em><\/strong> la m\u00fasica de desarroll\u00f3 a partir de unas peque\u00f1as c\u00e9lulas consistentes en ideas concretas, unas notas o direcciones musicales.<\/p>\n<p>Tal y como sucede en las grabaciones de la Large Unit, y tambi\u00e9n en sus conciertos, las piezas son extensas en general. Tanto <em>Clusterfuck<\/em> como <em>New Map<\/em> incluyen tres piezas cada una, tres de las cuales (\u00abClusterfuck\u00bb del disco hom\u00f3nimo, y \u00abNew Map\u00bb y \u00abCirles\u00bb de la segunda grabaci\u00f3n), duran por encima de los veinte minutos. Dos m\u00e1s (\u00abBubbles\u00bb y \u00abMoodplay\u00bb de Clusterfuck), duran m\u00e1s de diez minutos. \u00abGong Piece\u00bb es la m\u00e1s breve, con una duraci\u00f3n de seis minutos y diecisiete segundos.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69113\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-69113 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/tomajazz.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Large-Unit-New-Map-PNL-Records-2022PNL054_WEB-200x197.jpg\" alt=\"Large Unit New Map (PNL054. PNL Records, 2022)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>En general tambi\u00e9n, ya que cada una de las piezas es un mundo en s\u00ed lleno de detalles, en todos los temas se da un equilibrio entre la parte compuesta y los momentos abiertos a la improvisaci\u00f3n. De ese modo se van sucediendo distintos pasajes, y estos pueden pertenecer a lo libre o a lo compuesto, que alternan momentos de una energ\u00eda explosiva, con otros de un car\u00e1cter paisaj\u00edstico y casi contemplativo. Resulta muy importante un planteamiento en la exposici\u00f3n de las composiciones de Paal Nilssen-Love m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del exhibicionismo de los solistas de la secci\u00f3n viento &#8211; metal, apoyados por el resto de compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n<p>De ese modo, a lo largo de las grabaciones se puede disfrutar con el trabajo de todos los m\u00fasicos (hay tiempo suficiente para ello ya que cada grabaci\u00f3n dura en torno a cincuenta minutos), incluyendo el de instrumentos no muy habituales como el arpa de <strong>Lotte Kr\u00fcger<\/strong>, la tuba de <strong>Per \u00c5ke Holmlander<\/strong> o\u00a0 la electr\u00f3nica de <strong>Tommi Ker\u00e4nen<\/strong>; o el inicio de \u00abGong Piece\u00bb con los tres percusionistas trabajando mano a mano.<\/p>\n<p>A la espera de la actividad de la Large Unit en su d\u00e9cimo aniversario (\u00bfalguien se animar\u00e1 a traerlos de gira por Espa\u00f1a? La respuesta, lamentablemente, podemos adelantar que ser\u00e1 que no), <em>Clusterfuck<\/em> y <em>New Map<\/em> son unos aperitivos magn\u00edficos. \u00a1Feliz aniversario a Paal Nilssen-Love y a la Large Unit!
