Adem\u00e1s de en un buen pu\u00f1ado de grabaciones de esta formaci\u00f3n, tambi\u00e9n ha participado en las dos grabaciones del <strong>Mary Halvorson Quintet<\/strong>, en sendas grabaciones de <strong>Tomas Fujiwara &amp; The <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hook <\/span>Up<\/strong>, en tres m\u00e1s junto a <strong>Steve Lehman<\/strong> y tambi\u00e9n acompa\u00f1ando al pianista<strong> David Virelles<\/strong>. Tras acumular este importante bagaje es cuando finalmente se ha animado a publicar su estreno, <em>Moment &amp; The Message<\/em>, a nombre del grupo <strong>Jonathan Finlayson &amp; Sicilian Defense<\/strong>. Como es f\u00e1cil deducir, adem\u00e1s de trompetista <strong>Finlayson<\/strong> es aficionado al ajedrez. De ese modo este deporte &#8211; arte aparece no s\u00f3lo en el nombre de su formaci\u00f3n (la defensa siciliana es una de las m\u00e1s populares contra la apertura de pe\u00f3n de rey), sino tambi\u00e9n en el t\u00edtulo del tema \u00abRuy Lopez\u00bb (popular apertura tambi\u00e9n conocida como apertura espa\u00f1ola en honor al cl\u00e9rigo espa\u00f1ol que fue el primer campe\u00f3n mundial de ajedrez oficioso, y te\u00f3rico de este juego all\u00e1 por el siglo XVI).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Volviendo a la grabaci\u00f3n, si bien hay alguna influencia puntual de\u00a0<strong>Steve Coleman<\/strong> y del <strong>M-Base<\/strong> (especialmente en la primera parte de \u00abCircus\u00bb), el trompetista sabe mantener las distancias con su jefe. La escritura de sus temas resulta sumamente exigente para los cinco m\u00fasicos (<strong>Miles Okazaki<\/strong> -guitarra-, <strong>David<\/strong> <strong>Virelles<\/strong> -piano-, <strong>Keith<\/strong> <strong>Witty<\/strong> -contrabajo-, <strong>Damion<\/strong> <strong>Reid<\/strong> -bater\u00eda). En estos juega con los cambios de ritmo y con las m\u00e9tricas, incluyendo distintas referencias estil\u00edsticas. Entre ellas est\u00e1n el M-Base (el ya citado o \u00abScaean Gates\u00bb), el jazz <em>fusion<\/em> (en el logrado \u00abLo Haze\u00bb con una preciosa melod\u00eda que explota en todo su potencial al final del tema), la m\u00fasica cl\u00e1sica (\u00abTensegrity\u00bb) o directamente el jazz de corte contempor\u00e1neo (\u00abCarthage\u00bb).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El estreno de <strong>Jonathan Finlayson<\/strong> no decepciona. A sus magn\u00edficas cualidades como trompetista, a\u00f1ade las de compositor y l\u00edder, presentando una obra muy bien trabajada y meditada.
