Cincuenta a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s la baterista <strong>Terri Lyne Carrington<\/strong> rinde homenaje a <a title=\"Tomajazz recomienda\u2026 un CD: Money Jungle (Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Max Roach; 1962)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tomajazz.com\/web\/?p=7046\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">uno de los discos m\u00e1s conocidos de la historia del jazz, el que aun\u00f3 a <strong>Duke Ellington<\/strong>, <strong>Charles Mingus<\/strong> y <strong>Max Roach<\/strong> all\u00e1 por 1962<\/a>. Pero con un lavado de cara considerable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En esta versi\u00f3n 2.0 el tr\u00edo lo forman <strong>Gerald Clayton<\/strong>, <strong>Christian McBride<\/strong> y la l\u00edder. Nadie imita (ni siquiera emula) a nadie. Toman los originales de <strong>Ellington<\/strong>, les a\u00f1aden alguna composici\u00f3n propia y actualizan el concepto con sinceridad, descaro y sonoridades actuales, sin efectismos ni gui\u00f1os forzados. Ya lo dejan claro desde el inicial \u201cMoney Jungle\u201d, donde el contrabajo de <strong>McBride<\/strong> es incluso m\u00e1s agresivo que el de <strong>Mingus<\/strong> en la versi\u00f3n original. Mezclan un <i>swing <\/i>contagioso (\u201cVery Special\u201d) con ritmos cercanos al <i>funk<\/i>, basan su discurso en el <i>blues<\/i> pero no dudan en tirar de cualquier detalle estil\u00edstico del gusto contempor\u00e1neo, basando varias interpretaciones en patrones ejecutados al un\u00edsono entre piano y contrabajo. Y encima ampl\u00edan el tr\u00edo con colaboraciones de brillo, a destacar la del trompetista <strong>Clark Terry<\/strong> (\u00a192 a\u00f1os ya!) en \u201cFleurette Africain\u201d y la del trombonista <strong>Robin Eubanks<\/strong>. \u00bfY la <strong>Carrington<\/strong>? Pues discreta y centrada en el sonido del grupo, trabajando en equipo y sin destacar m\u00e1s que en las fotos de la carpetilla. Por cierto, que en la contraportada interior el tr\u00edo <strong>Clayon-McBride-Carrington<\/strong> recrea con bastante fidelidad la foto de portada del <i>Money Jungle <\/i>original.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dos detalles impagables: en el \u00faltimo corte <strong>Shea Rose<\/strong> interpreta el poema \u201cMusic\u201d, tambi\u00e9n de <strong>Ellington<\/strong>. En ese mismo tema <strong>Herbie Hancock<\/strong> imita la voz del m\u00edtico pianista y compositor.
