El artista comenz\u00f3 su carrera musical hace m\u00e1s de una veintena de a\u00f1os como m\u00fasico profesional, pero no fue hasta el a\u00f1o 2014 cuando ser\u00eda reconocido con un Grammy al mejor \u00e1lbum vocal de Jazz, por <em>Liquid Spirit<\/em> ( Blue Note Records, 2013). Fue el propio saxofonista el que realiz\u00f3 la introducci\u00f3n de la segunda pieza anunciada por el cantante, \u201cOn My Way To Harlem\u201d (<em>Be Good<\/em>, 2012). El vocalista, acompa\u00f1ado por los arreglos del saxof\u00f3n, ofreci\u00f3 su primer <em>scat<\/em>, dejando de nuevo los solos en las manos de Pennicot y del \u00f3rgano Hammond de Pivec. \u201cIf Love Is Overrated\u201d (<em>All Rise<\/em>, 2020), introducida con el \u00f3rgano, fue otra preciosa melod\u00eda cantada, apoyada por los arreglos de piano de Crawford, y desarrollada con l\u00edricos fraseos del saxo tenor.<\/p>\n<p>Es destacable la gran labor que realiz\u00f3 el t\u00e9cnico de mesa que acompa\u00f1aba al grupo, conocedor de los efectos de sonido, reverberaciones y ecos, que contiene cada canci\u00f3n, como en \u201cLiquid Spirit\u201d (<em>Liquid Spirit<\/em>, 2013) un tema con influencias de la m\u00fasica g\u00f3spel que iniciaron con la voz, el piano y el \u00f3rgano en solitario, para entrar a la melod\u00eda principal arropado por el resto del grupo y acompa\u00f1ado por las palmas del p\u00fablico. La larga introducci\u00f3n del contrabajista Nichols incluy\u00f3 varias citas instrumentales de algunos temas conocidos como: \u201cMy Girl\u201d, \u201cMaster Blaster\u201d o \u201cSmoke On The Water\u201d, hasta llegar a \u201cPapa Was A Rollin\u2018 Stone\u201d (Norman Whitfield \/ Barrett Strong), pieza cantada por Porter. Una de las canciones m\u00e1s aplaudidas por el p\u00fablico. La banda cambi\u00f3 de din\u00e1mica con \u201cWork Song\u201d (Nat Adderley). Tras los primeros compases cantados, el baterista Harrold inici\u00f3 una demostraci\u00f3n de sus habilidades antes de dar la entrada de nuevo a la melod\u00eda. El baterista luci\u00f3 despu\u00e9s con otra muestra de sus cualidades hasta lograr la intensidad en el final del tema. En la canciones \u201cHey Laura\u201d y \u201cNo Love Dying\u201d, ambas incluidas en su disco de 2013, el cantante deleit\u00f3 al p\u00fablico con otro despliegue de su entra\u00f1able e impresionante voz, y una destacable improvisaci\u00f3n con el saxo tenor de Pennicott, que comparti\u00f3 un gran protagonismo con el l\u00edder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>El grupo acab\u00f3 su actuaci\u00f3n con un tema cantado en espa\u00f1ol \u201cQuiz\u00e1s, quiz\u00e1s, quiz\u00e1s\u201d (Osvaldo Farr\u00e9s) canci\u00f3n que salt\u00f3 a la fama en la voz de Nat King Cole, otra de las influencias en Porter, que hizo las delicias de los presentes. Un concierto extraordinario y muy emotivo, prueba de la versatilidad y el elegante saber hacer del gran vocalista.
