Los actuales son tiempos de autoproducciones para una gran mayor\u00eda de grabaciones, y por tanto lo ideal y lo habitual es que los grupos rueden sus repertorios previo a la grabaci\u00f3n con unos cuantos conciertos para aprovechar al m\u00e1ximo el dinero invertido en el estudio. En Nueva York, el Smalls est\u00e1 haciendo de esa necesidad virtud por medio de la serie de discos titulados gen\u00e9ricamente <i>Live At Smalls <\/i>(SmallsLive). Jazz\u00edsticamente Nueva York es un universo en el que conviven desde el jazz m\u00e1s cl\u00e1sico hasta la vanguardia m\u00e1s rompedora. El Smalls se queda en un <i>mainstream<\/i> contempor\u00e1neo. Entre sus \u00faltimas grabaciones el pianista Harold Mabern da toda una lecci\u00f3n de pianismo cl\u00e1sico a tr\u00edo con temas de Erroll Garner, Wes Montgomery, un <i>boogie<\/i> propio, unas muy interesantes versiones de \u00abAfro Blue\u00bb y \u00abSesame Street\u00bb, y un delicioso \u00abI&#8217;m Walking\u00bb de Fats Domino. Otro grande de las 88 teclas fallecido este a\u00f1o, Mulgrew Miller, es integrante del cuarteto del trompetista Joe Magnarelli. De nuevo el repertorio son un par de temas propios y versiones (de Monk entre otros), que con una duraci\u00f3n en torno a los 10 minutos permiten espacio para muy buenos solos y para que la m\u00fasica se desarrolle sin prisas. El trompetista Alex Sipiagin al frente de un quinteto en el que participan el pianista David Kikoski y el saxo Seamus Blake interpreta 5 temas de corte contempor\u00e1neo, brillantes como \u00abLive Score\u00bb\u00a0o el extenso (20 minutos) \u00abPass\u00bb. El saxofonista Will Vinson est\u00e1 al frente de un quinteto de lujo junto a Lage Lund (piano), Aaron Parks (piano), Matt Brewer (contrabajo) y el imprescindible Marcus Gilmore (bater\u00eda). Temas propios, uno de Ellington y otro de Benny Golson para un CD que muestra a la perfecci\u00f3n la excitaci\u00f3n musical que puede surgir sobre el escenario de un club con los m\u00fasicos en plena forma.En <i>The Blue Room <\/i>Madeleine Peyroux, habitual en los festivales de jazz, recrea <i>Modern Songs\u2026<\/i> de Ray Charles. En 2013 ha desaparecido la osad\u00eda que supuso esta obra en su momento (en la que aparec\u00edan \u00abBye Bye Love\u00bb o \u00abI Can\u2019t Stop Loving You\u00bb), qued\u00e1ndose en una magn\u00edfica colecci\u00f3n de grandes canciones completada con temas de Leonard Cohen, Warren Zevon o Buddy Holly que reivindican a esta cantante con una gran producci\u00f3n con secci\u00f3n de cuerdas e invitados de lujo (Larry Goldings y Vince Mendoza) incluidos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a9\u00a0Pachi Tapiz, 2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Publicado en el n\u00famero 309 (Noviembre de 2013) de la revista\u00a0<a title=\"Ruta 66.
