Medeski,
Martin & Wood visited Spain for the first time this summer: they played
in Ibiza, on Injuve’s Muestra de Jazz. They are one of the more successful
groups of the New York scene, internationally acclaimed. This time, we wanted
that the interview was conducted by one of the most peculiar groups of spanish
jazz, Dead Capo. This is the result of this original meeting. Listen

"The Bad Plus" is an orthodox
jazz trio (piano, bass and drums) but unorthodox in content. Nirvana,
Blondie or J.S. Bach have "suffered" their particular
sound "deconstruction". Next summer they´ll play
in some spanish cities (Barcelona, Vitoria...) to present their
second release: "These are the Vistas". Reid
Anderson (bass player of the band) has kindly attended
an interview
for Tomajazz V-2003
Tim Berne is one of the most personal
and complex voices in music today. Diluting multiple genre-borders,
he has followed an uncompromised path oscillating between jazz,
improvisation and chamber music. In other words, a strictly personal
language. An exclusive interview in Tomajazz by Efrén del Valle:

Douglas in Barcelona, Spain in October of 2002:

a new group that in 2002 has edited one of the best debut record
for years. Here's an interview with his three components. An interview

Xavier Garcia is a french
musician from ARFI ("Association for the Research of an Imaginary
Folklore") that, starting from electroacoustic music, develops
most of his projects inside or around the jazz world (by example
his collaboration in Guy Villerd/Ayler Project). We interviewied
him some days before his concerts in "Plaza Festival 2003"
in San Sebastian, Spain. Interview by
José Francisco Tapiz: http://www.tomajazz.com/perfiles/garcia_x_eng.htm
Pierre Alexandre
Tremblay is the bass player and artististic director of the
Quebec´s group [IKS]. The band, born in 1996,
mixes a whole world of esthetics (free jazz, soul, rap, african
music...) to conform their particular sound world. A group whose
objective is experiment with improvisation - from the different
approaches to improvised music of the band members - to create a
new and unique language. By Carlos Pérez Cruz. V-2003
Malia, a singer born in Malawi,
is one of Sony’s new bets. Her presence in the jazz department
of the label and in some of the spanish summer festivals is an example
of their complete misconception. But you can judge for yourself,
since she visited the "Club de Jazz". http://www.tomajazz.com/clubdejazz/entrevistas/malia_eng.htm

Jason Moran is, at 27, one
of the most interesting pianist of the current jazz scene in the
United States. In spite of his youth, he shows at the piano a strong
maturity that can be heard in his four records under his name and
in many collaborations. A student with Jaki Byard and Andrew Hill,
Jason Moran follows with his piano very diverse paths in the improvisation
world . His last work –“Modernistic”
(Blue Note)- is a face-to-face encounter with himself alone at the
piano. By Carlos Pérez Cruz http://www.tomajazz.com/perfiles/moran_jason_eng.htmVI-2003
Marc Ribot is one of the most in-demand
guitarists of the New York downtown scene. An exclusive interview
in Tomajazz by Efrén del Valle, last december 24th, 2002:

At
51, Kenny Werner is an historic legend of the piano. During
five nights, we could enjoy (a lot!) his music in the midnight
sessions of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s Jazz Festival. We had a long
conversation with him, with the company of Guillermo Bazzola (guitar
player and journalist) and Sergio Cabanillas (journalist). Here you
can listen the interview. By Carlos Pérez Cruz (http://www.tomajazz.com/perfiles/werner_kenny.htm)VIII-2003
